I read this article on BBC today. In Asia, children need DHEA & Iron in particular and companies know that impacts flavor so they add sugar. Classic example of fixing 1 problem but causing another.

It’s comforting to know parents all over the world struggle with the same issues. But…too much of anything is not good. So there’s a balance between making dishes from scratch and giving the premade foods to our families.
I don’t think packaged food should replace all 3 meals. Maybe 1-2 meal/day is a reasonable compromise for families with very busy work schedules and lack of access to fresh markets?
I don’t have any advice except to say I read the labels very carefully so that I can be an informed consumer. In the USA, labels now have to declare the “added sugar” if that number is high that is a red flag. The product has a lot sugar to cover up lack of natural flavor, is mostly a junk food item (like Lucky Charms) or for some reason they add a lot of sugar to what should be a “healthy” food (like pre packaged granola). For granola and/or oatmeal I read the labels very carefully and we do our own add-ins to boost protein and flavor (like chia seeds, real fruit (berries or 🍌), and chocolate flavored protein powder.
Food delivery service I think is a good option now for older families where you select meal you like and pick the level of natural ingredients and work you want to put into prepping the meal. It’s all a balance. We all have different seasons of life. The more you know! 🌈 💫
The BBC takes a closer look at the products more and more parents are turning to for their children.
