Week 3 featured several defensive standouts who made game-changing plays and helped establish their teams’ identities.
Defensive Line
Caydein McNeil, West Florida: A relentless defender who is difficult to block. He recorded 10 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks, marking his third consecutive week with 10-plus tackles.
Jabari Thompson, Booker T. Washington: A constant threat off the edge who continues to strengthen the Wildcats’ defensive line.
Justus Payne and Tobias Johnson, Escambia: The duo continues to anchor the area’s top-rated defense with strong pressure and turnover-producing plays.
Linebackers
Asaiah Milligan, Booker T. Washington: Broke out with 10 tackles, a tackle for loss and an interception in the Wildcats’ dominant win.
Brooks Clayton, Catholic: The freshman continues to play beyond his years while leading the Crusaders in tackles.
Connor Rooney: An anchor in the middle of the defense whose production continues to increase each week.
Defensive Backs
Mario Hayes, Milton: Stepped up as a leader and playmaker with six tackles, two interceptions and a pick-six.
Cortell Cunningham, Escambia: A fast, physical defender with nine tackles, two tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. He has recorded at least eight tackles in consecutive weeks.
