KOH 2026 Class 11 Showdown race recap
and I took the green flag Saturday afternoon and gave it hell as long as we could. It was absolutely wild! Land rush start, 6 cars wide, 4 rows deep. Took things relatively easy the first lap, getting a feel for the car and the course. Outside of a quick test run out to chocolate thunder the day before, we had zero off-road seat time in the car. It felt like we were getting faster with each lap, but we were pretty well outgunned. A lot of talented drivers and fast cars showed up! Realizing I wasn't likely to place well, I figured I'd take a page out of 's book and aimed to make the highlight reel. There was a pretty good jump just after the straight away, past the .tires tent and I barreled into it as fast as this little car would let me. After hitting it 4 or 5 times we developed what sounded like a pretty good exhaust leak. We ran with that for another lap or so and began smelling oil. After hitting "the" jump one more time, the motor shut off and we weren't able to fire it back up. course officials towed us off the track and to a safe area, where Mike and I looked over the motor. Nothing obvious at the time, though there was oil all over the back end. We jiggled some wires and tried firing it again, but no luck. At that point our race was over, I believe we finished 7 laps and landed 18 out of a field of 24.
First race in the driver seat, first race in this class, first race in this car... A lot was learned and the hook is set. Can't wait for what's to come.
Huge thanks to my wife for all of her support, keeping the home and family together as I built the car over the last few months. Another huge thank you to , who put in countless hours (weeks) fabricating and building this wild idea with me. were integral to our success as soon as we hit the lakebed, parts runs, hours of driving, pulling and reinstalling the motor and trans, and everything else that went into getting us to the starting line. Instagram is limiting how much I can write, so thanks again to everyone who played a part in this journey.
