River Valley battled back twice but could not overcome a late surge in a 7-4 loss to Johnstown-Monroe on Sunday.

Johnstown-Monroe struck first in the opening inning.

The Vikings responded in the top of the third, taking a 3-1 advantage behind RBI singles from Pate Crawford and Dominic Weber.

Johnstown-Monroe answered in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead at 4-3. While another run scored on a River Valley error.

River Valley tied the game in the fifth inning when Weber lined an RBI double to center field, evening the score at 4-4.

The Johnnies pulled away in the sixth inning, capitalizing on another Viking error making it 7-4.

Nolan Bailey started on the mound for River Valley, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits over three innings while striking out one and walking one.

Dominic Weber paced the Viking offense with a 2-for-3 performance and three RBIs. Isaac Donelson also collected two hits, while Aiden Bowers added speed on the bases with two steals. River Valley totaled four stolen bases in the game.

River Valley Varsity Vikings dropped a high-scoring matchup to Northmor Golden Knights, 15-10, on Thursday night. Northmor’s offense piled up 17 hits, while River Valley finished with six hits of its own.

River Valley struck first in the opening inning, plating two runs on a pair of groundouts. Nolan Bailey drove in the first run of the game to give the Vikings an early advantage.

Northmor answered quickly in the bottom half of the first, erupting for six runs on six hits to move in front 6-2.

River Valley battled back in the fifth inning, scoring five runs to cut into the deficit. Nolan Bailey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in a run, Owen Severns delivered a two-run single, and two Northmor errors also brought runners home.

Brayden Taynor took the loss for River Valley. Leyton Thrush started on the mound for the Vikings.

Bailey led the River Valley offense with three RBIs. Pate Crawford, Bailey, Hunter Faust, Severns, Aiden Bowers, and Logan Levings each recorded a hit. The Vikings also showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks, with Crawford and Bowers collecting two apiece. River Valley turned one double play defensively.
