I will keep this one shorter than last time. Overall, the return to Buttonwillow for round 2 was a success. Goal for the weekend was to pick up where I left off last month. Saturday I made some minor suspension changes based on feedback from R1. This made the bike a bit more stable and comfortable through few of the bumpy areas and I was able to keep a consistent pace without feeling like I'm fighting with the front end.

Most of the Sunday races were quite similar: do my best on the start, slot in behind Valentine into turn 1 and then spend the next few laps going back and forth fighting for the lead. One exception being Formula 4, when we were joined by Troy. Between looking for any open gaps left by Valentine and trying to block Troy at the same time, it made for quite an exciting race.

Final results: 1st in 450 Superbike, Lightweight Superbike, Formula 4, and 500 Superstock. As of this writing, I'm leading the championship points chase in all four of those classes and I'm hoping to keep that going for the remainder of the season.

It's been a while since I posted on this page so here are some words to bring whoever is reading up to speed. At the end of 2019 season I decided to take an indefinite break from racing to focus on other things in my life. Even with the fiasco of a year that 2020 was, it was difficult to stay away from the track and the itch to compete was still lingering on in the back of my head.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago. With AFM round 1 getting close, my initial intent was to just spectate but I began questioning the hit my sanity would take seeing my friends gridding up again while I'm folding their tire warmers in the pits. Few Facebook chats later with Catalyst Reaction Suspension Tuning and EPHEN Creations, I found myself in my backyard rattle canning a spare set of R6 bodywork. Intentions have changed.

I've shown up to Buttonwillow with a fresh paint job before. That set didn't make it through the second practice session, however this time things were going well. With a new goal of just having fun, it was easier to keep my head clear which made practice and qualifying more enjoyable than usual.

I signed up for all races the 450 was eligible for, four of them to be exact. Not only were the grids mostly filled with 400s but also due to mechanicals and crashes, the majority bikes with comparable HP didn't get to pose much of a threat come race time. However, there were few exceptions. In Lightweight Superbike, Aaron Tulchinsky set a quick pace right off the bat and I was not able to make any meaningful moves finishing up in 2nd. Determined to change that in Formula 4 I got the hole shot and led most of the race, only making a mistake into the first corner on the last lap which dropped me back to 2nd. Not wanting a repeat of the last race, I put my head down, took back the position and checkered flag. Competitive flame might be more of a flicker these days, but it's still there. Found out a bit later that this lap was the new record for the 450 class: 1:54.464

Overall, four podiums was a lot more than I expected for the "let's see how things go" weekend. I haven't fully made up my mind yet for the remainder of the season, but it's quite possible I will be back at it for round 2.

At the time of this posting, I am already on my way to Thunderhill Raceway for AFM 2019 Round 6, but I want to take few minutes to recap what happened at Sonoma Raceway at the beginning of the month.

First of all, probably the biggest noticeable change for our team since the introduction of the stylish yet bold bike livery earlier this season (cheers EPHEN Creations). Thanks to Mithos-USA, Valentine, Paul and I now blend in with our bikes almost seamlessly in our brand new suits.

Although I did not get to fight for the podium, towards the end of the weekend I started having fun. This season has been a bit difficult mentally. I have not been happy with my performance, which make it hard to relax and enjoy the process and in turn impaired my progress. I hope that this was a first step out of that cycle - we will see this weekend.

Big thanks all of these people and companies that help us do this.

Better late than never - a quick recap of AFM Round 2.

While Nickie, Jim and Paul were enjoying themselves at COTA, Valentine and I were holding down the Catalyst fort at Buttonwillow. Additionally, Todd and Chris came out and helped us out in the pits, big thanks for that!
Round 1 was a struggle for me; I felt uncomfortable on the new bike and didn’t have the confidence to push the pace. Although I’m not where I want to be just yet, I’m happy to report that the changes Jim made for this round made the bike feel a lot better. It’s also possible that Jim didn’t do anything at all and all of the improvements stemmed from the sick new graphics provided by Stephen at EPHEN Creations. Bikes look fast even when parked in the pits!

Greetings Keigwins family,

As you know we have been managing Keigwins@theTrack for the past four years. It’s been a wonderful opportunity and we have learned so much during this time.

Keigwins@theTrack is going out of business, however, we have had such an amazing experience and support from all of you that we have started our own company named Carters at the Track.

What does this mean?

Carters at the Track has purchased the database from Keigwins@theTrack

Carters at the Track has incurred the debt from Keigwins@theTrack and we will honor all credit, gift certificates, and passes from Keigwins@theTrack

Carters at the Track has procured all future track day events that Keigwins@theTrack had on the calendar for this year

We are aware that this press release is a couple of days after the Keigwins@theTrack announcement of their business closing, and we apologize for not getting this out there sooner. Please understand that we have been busy working behind the scenes to make this process smooth and seamless for our trackday family.

We promise to uphold the same loyalty, respect, and quality trackdays to our customers that Lance and Linda Keigwin held in their vision when they started Keigwins@theTrack 20 years ago.

We know what really makes us great is all the amazing staff, service providers and riders that we have had with Keigwins@theTrack. We are happy to announce that we will continue with all of the same service providers, and instructors, to make sure you keep having the best experience possible!

The new website www.cartersatthetrack.com is up and running, but for now you can still sign up on either site.

Thank you for your business and support, we look forward to this new opportunity.
