Burnsville — The Burnsville Bobcats used a big third inning and a dominant performance on the mound to earn an 11–1 victory over the Burnsville Badgers on Friday night at home.
The Bobcats wasted little time getting on the board, scoring once in the first inning and adding another run in the second to take an early 2–0 lead. Burnsville continued to apply pressure in the third, breaking the game open with a five-run frame that put the Bobcats firmly in control at 7–0.
John Santelman opened the game with a single, while Zach Andreasen reached base and swiped three bags on the evening. Ben Meuser sparked the offense from the heart of the order, finishing 1-for-3 with three runs scored and a double. Jonah Dawson collected two hits and scored twice, helping keep the line moving throughout the night.
The biggest blow came off the bat of designated hitter Blake Tritch. After driving in a run earlier in the game, Tritch launched a grand slam home run to deep left center. He finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored. His performance accounted for nearly half of the Bobcats' offensive production and highlighted an eight-hit attack.
Burnsville continued to create opportunities by drawing six walks and taking advantage of several hit batters. Noah Juliar, Zach Andreasen, Gus McIntire, and Jace Trachsel were all hit by pitches during the game. Trachsel entered as a pinch hitter and reached base after being plunked, helping extend another Bobcat rally.
On the mound, Brandon Hugo delivered one of his strongest outings of the season. The right-hander worked six scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out five and walking just one. Hugo consistently worked out of trouble, stranding runners and keeping the Badgers off the scoreboard despite several scoring opportunities.
The Badgers threatened in the opening inning when they put runners aboard, but Hugo induced key outs to escape the jam. Burnsville's defense also came through with several timely plays behind him to preserve the shutout through six innings.
Collin Heckman took over in the seventh inning and recorded three strikeouts. The Badgers managed their lone run in the frame, but Heckman limited the damage and kept the game comfortably in the Bobcats' favor. Tritch worked a scoreless eighth inning to close out the victory.
Burnsville added insurance runs late, scoring three times in the seventh and once more in the eighth to cap the scoring. Matt Trocke contributed an RBI single, while Tim Urlaub drove in two runs and Gus McIntire added an RBI
The Bobcats finished the night with 11 runs on eight hits and committed just one error. The Badgers were held to five hits and one run while striking out nine times.
