Kids Club of Harney County's new gym facility is named in honor of the late Eugene “Geno” Timms, a former state senator, who raised his family here in Harney County and was known as a fierce advocate for his sprawling eastern Oregon district. The facility features a new full-size gymnasium, Geno's Gym, allowing for new programs like gymnastics and Mommy and Me tumbling classes, as well as the abil

ity to host open gym time, provide additional space for sports teams to practice and host tournaments, and during the bitter winter months a place where adults can come and walk or run. Along with bringing a new gym to the community, Kids Club plans to expand Geno’s Youth Center to feature a teen area, art room, a café, a new classrooms for Little Learners Preschool and afterschool programs, and much more. This facility will increase the number of kids utilizing Kids Club programs and provide greater access to healthy meals, homework help, nutrition education, and an increase in physical activity opportunities. This helps Kids Club achieve their long-term goals of lowering youth obesity rates, increasing graduation rates, and giving the youth in our county somewhere that they’re proud to call their own.
