Some well deserved recognition for Wes! He is one of the true glue pieces to our team! We are definitely excited for the upcoming season. The boys have been in the gym putting in the work this offseason!

🏀 - Buffalo’s versatile forward Wesley Mallett 🦬

Wesley Mallett (6’3 senior) has become one of the most complete players in recent history of the Buffalo High School basketball program. A four-sport standout whose junior basketball season confirmed what Bison fans already knew: he can score, rebound, and help lead a team through a post season run.

Last season, Mallett posted a near double-double average in points and rebounds, giving Buffalo a reliable two-way presence at small forward and power forward. The junior’s production helped the Bison go 17-7 overall and 10-0 in league play, win the LKC South division, and reach the Class AA Region 4 final. His work on the glass and in the paint made him a nightly matchup problem and a foundation of Buffalo’s best regular-season stretch in recent years.

Those junior numbers also earned him statewide recognition. Mallett was named to the West Virginia Sports Writers Association Class AA All-State honorable mention team after the 2025-26 season. Teammate Asher Flanery made second team, underscoring how much Buffalo’s junior core drove the program.

The groundwork was laid a year earlier. As a sophomore in 2024-25, Mallett helped lead Buffalo to the WVSSAC state tournament. The Bison punched their ticket with a 44-41 regional win over Scott, then faced powerhouse Williamstown in the Class AA quarterfinals at the Charleston Coliseum. Reaching Charleston as a sophomore marked Buffalo as a rising Class AA program lead by Head Coach Adam Scott, and Mallett as a player already trusted in big moments.

Basketball is only part of the story. Mallett is a four-sport standout for the Bison. In addition to basketball, he competes in golf, cross country and track and field, where he has posted personal bests in the 5K, 110- and 300-meter hurdles, long jump, and discus. That year-round versatility — speed, strength, and endurance across seasons — shows up on the court in his rebounding, transition play, and stamina.

A member of the Class of 2027, Mallett still has his senior year ahead. If his junior campaign is any indication, Buffalo will again lean on a forward who fills the stat sheet, earns all-state mention, and treats every sport as part of the same competitive standard.

Asher Flannery: Buffalo High School’s Dynamic Point Guard Shines in Junior Season! 🦬

Asher Flannery, a 5’10” guard for Buffalo High School in West Virginia, has emerged as one of the top young talents in Class AA basketball. A member of the Class of 2027, the versatile point guard combines scoring prowess, playmaking ability, and defensive tenacity, helping lead the Bison on competitive runs in recent seasons.

Flannery plays with a high basketball IQ and clutch gene. In one notable early 2025-26 contest, he sank two free throws with 4.4 seconds left to secure a 57-56 road victory over a strong Scott Skyhawks team. He has also reached the 1,000-career-point milestone during his junior year and earned high recognition on All-State and All-LKC teams.

Junior Season Stats (2025-26):
Over 24 games, Flannery averaged:
• 20.6 Points Per Game (leading his team and ranking among the top scorers in Class AA)
• 3.8 Assists Per Game
• 4.1 Rebounds Per Game
• 2.2 Steals Per Game

He shot efficiently, with highlights including strong field-goal and three-point percentages, and posted games with 20+ points on a regular basis, including a 29-point outing.

Known for his leadership and work ethic (with a reported 3.8 GPA), Flannery has drawn attention from coaches and scouts across West Virginia prep basketball. As he enters his senior year, expectations are high for the Bison, with Flannery poised to build on his already impressive high school résumé. Buffalo fans and West Virginia basketball observers will be watching closely as this standout guard continues his ascent.
