Getting a bunch of our Folsom gear finalized for the Folsom Bison Hunt. We've got different sizes of points and foreshafts to test through, but the general theme of the foreshaft system is based on the construct that I presented in the preliminary Folsom Bison build & hunt a couple of months ago. (you can see all of those building and hunting videos on the HuntPrimitive YT channel)
The detachable and reusable foreshafting element worked perfectly as predicted in the small scale tests, so we are going to run it on a larger scale test with 6 hunters all throwing at once in a long-range volley.
The final Folsom project will likely do a great job in illustrating how and why these people implemented a fairly complex system that was uniquely adapted to their nomadic situation, post Younger-Dryas.

Finished up a custom Otter Quiver yesterday. I do a lot of Bobcat quivers (I'm finishing up a bobcat quiver this morning) but only a few otter quivers each year. I think the otter quivers come out real slick and nice. A little bit of colorful beading really makes them pop.

We've got 4 brand new HT Primitive bows up on the website. There are some really pretty woods. Streaky Osage, Osage backed with Spalted Maple, and one of the last Bacote bows. We've got some with the stylistic snakey limbs as well as some with the sleek straight limbs.
These are in-stock only bows, so we don't take any custom orders for them. So, if you see one you like, sn**ch it up. They've quickly turned into our best sellers. You can also read all about them on the website as well.

Yesterday we spent the day at The Big Dig Florida digging and sifting for arrowhead/atlatl heads. It was a great day, and we chose to dig more than hang out at the sifting tables. However, the sifting tables seemed to be far more productive as you can sift through a lot more material. Other guys at the dig found some great whole points (not shown), where we enjoyed sitting and digging by hand, finding points and flakes in situ.
As it turns out, it was the last day of digging at this site as the site is running out, but they are going to be opening a new site very soon in Leesburg, FL so we will be sure to get back for another day of digging at the fresh site! I highly recommend this experience and business!

Just a few random pretty builds from yesterday that are heading for the mail this morning. Looking forward to a relaxing weekend and then hopefully a hugely productive next week as I turn and burn on building bows.

If you've been following along with some of our Folsom deep-dives on YouTube, or posts on social, the reusable foreshaft concept worked very well. Unfortunately, as occasionally happens, I had a direct rib hit which broke the tip off one of the points. However, the foreshaft could still be whittled back and a new point established on the projectile to quickly put it back into service. Both foreshafts were recovered inside the Bison's thoracic cavity and could easily be re-hafted with the lap joint back to a mainshaft.
This was a great test in being able to test the reusable nature of these projectile systems. Rather than just the stone tip being looked at as the "projectile", instead, the whole foreshaft is treated as a reusable projectile. Even the impact on a rib is a testament to the strength of the deeply hafted Folsom point, glued with pine pitch glue and wrapped with sinew.
~The point that impacted the rib was made by Jacob Bradenbaugh and the one that went through the heart and remained whole was knapped by Tony Soares . Others not shown here were knapped by Aaron Wogoman (those will likely be used in a future project) Thank you, gentlemen, for your gracious contributions and knapping skills.

Primitive hunting certainly isn't for everyone, but for those who take up the challenge, there's a connection and feeling of reward that is hard to match.
