Shizen Ryu Aiki-Jujutsu 自然流合気柔術

Independent Martial arts club that specializes in Gendai budō 現代武道 style Aikijujutsu 合気柔術, at Zen Goj J. All are welcome to train.

Shizen Ryu Aiki-jujutsu 自然流合気柔術 is a independent Brooklyn New York based Martial Arts Club that practices on joint locks, redirections and throws that are very similar to those found in Judo and Aikido. Our focus is mainly self-defense since we don't train for sport or competitions. Originally headed by martial arts hall of fame indicted Menkyo Kaiden Sensei C. Krieger, The club is now headed by

current Menkyo Kaiden Sensei Charles Murphy. Currently our classes are at the Zen Goju Temple Dojo, 2533 65th Street, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11234 Wednesdays from 8:30pm to 10:30pm. We recommend you wear a Judo or Aikido Gi with a Hakama being optional.

Last time Tokyo hosted the summer Olympics, Judo was introduced as a medal sport. This year WKF Karate will be a sport at the Olympics, making it the 2nd Japanese Martial art to be part of the games.

Happy Independence Day from all of us at Shizen Ryu Aikijujutsu. Hope you are all enjoying the holiday weekend! Little fun fact. One of the many ways you can write America in Japanese is 米. 米国, specifically for the United States of America.
Like most kanji, 米 also has a second meaning, which in this case is rice. 国 is a kanji referring to country. The reason why is because originally when trying to write America phonetically, it came out as 亜米利加. 亜 was already used as a kanji shorthand for Asian; so they went with the 2nd kanji. In modern times, Japanese phonetically write forigin words in katakana as アメリカ (ア=a, メ = me, リ= ri, カ= ka). 米 can also be used be referring to the rest of the continent of America such as Central America as 中米 (中 meaning middle).

Since Shizen Ryu Aikijujutsu has had EMS members such as Sensei Rusty, Senpai Steven Aumoithe, the late Sensei John Morrone as well as others; and it was EMS week recently, here is a special logo with the yata no kagami symbol Shizen Ryu traditionally uses. In Japanese, EMS I’ve been told is 救急隊 Kyūkyū-tai. A big thank you to all who work in EMS during the pandemic, this and last year as well as every day you help the sick and injured. どうもありがとうございまし
