08/20/2026
In a year where we celebrated the good and rolled our eyes at the bad, the 2026 season, while fun, left a bitter taste.
Our season came to a close this past weekend with a loss in the first semifinal game that, in a way, showed the roller coaster of a season, starting on a high of playing at Mitchell’s Cadwell Park, to the low of being shipped across the parking lot to Drake to finish a game delayed four hours by rain.
We capped the year with a 20-4 record and a Sioux Empire League title, our first league championship since 2020. But the sparkling record and league title, while nice achievements, didn’t fulfill the appetite of the guys in the dugout.
This team doesn’t thrive without help from the community, who so graciously provides to allow these players to set foot on the field. Our sponsors went to bat for us this year, and for that, we are incredibly grateful for their gifts and contributions and hope to continue to be partners for years to come.
To the guys in the dugout, the “Pensacola Cubs,” thank you for spending your summer with us. We realize that for many, having to travel 45 or more minutes for a home game is a tough ask, and you did so. It’s what makes this group so loved and fun to be around. And we’re already on the lookout for guys who want to be in this dugout next summer.
To the legion guys who joined us for the tail end of the season, we hope your experience with the team was memorable! We include you all as one of us because we see you as our future, and that despite wearing different jerseys than the rest of the team, some day you’ll be wearing our colors and inviting into our dugout the next generation of Cubs. Thanks for tagging along!
The bear has officially been poked, and after a winter of hibernation, will be back with claws out and teeth bared for the 2027 season.
Lest we forget a former Cub who, while he never wore this style of jersey, did wear #5 in other styles, and was with us in spirit in the dugout every game. Jeremy, you’re so incredibly loved and missed, and a day doesn’t go by that you aren’t thought of. Thank you for all your support, camaraderie, and friendship through the years, both during and after your career transitioned from patrolling the outfield to behind the rail. Your 5’s that hung in our dugout this season will make their way into the hands of your sons, never to be worn again except by them.
