I am refining my relationship with social media. Yesterday I took the app off my phone. Today I am giving myself 3 sessions from the computer that are 10 minutes each and that will be my limit for the next couple of months. I need to focus on my creativity and writing. I know some of you will sorely miss being reel spammed, but anything that is truly good is worth waiting for.

This is what ritual looks like for anyone who was wondering.

Before you ask a woman how she could 'allow' herself to be abused. Take a big deep breath and consider your own ignorance and compliance within the systems that perpetuate it.

We do not 'allow' ourselves to become food for predators.

We—women—are 'groomed' from birth to be nice, accommodating and to forsake our own instincts for the sake of being socially pliable. All of society sets us up for this dynamic from schools to church to our own families.

Do you know who the most threatening person in a woman's life is? Her husband. 70% of missing and murdered women are victims of spousal or intimate partner abuse.

So before you go 'blaming' women for getting into abusive situations, consider the systems that perpetuate it and whether or not you are compliant within them.

Dear Nature, Dearest Mother,

You who enfolds us and with whom our destiny is entwined…

hear us.

We are sorry for what we have done to you for as long as we have been doing it. We realize that an apology really needs to come with time, space, and modified behavior—but what if we cannot stop? I do believe many of us are trying. I do believe many of us are trying to buy less, waste less, and love you better. I do believe that there is awakening to our relationship with you and many of us are seeing that when we are hurting, ignoring, neglecting, and abusing you we, too, are consumed by those affects. I see a web of lies that has been woven around you. How can we free you? I place my hand on my heart and my feet in the soil at Your direction.

I pick up trash where I can and water what is dry that is under my care. I water myself and those who I care about. I speak up when I can when I feel moved—when I feel brave. I ask for more bravery. I ask for mediation of your rage, though Gawd knows we deserve it.

Can you give us more time?

Time to catch up to our own indiscretions against you and ourselves.

We are trying…many of us are. We are trying to find our way back to you to stop hurting you and to stop hurting ourselves.

Won’t you help us help you?

The sunsets are still stunning no matter how many lives quake with suffering around the world and maybe that is part of your promise to us. The sun still rises as you spin around it in your infinite dance evoking life from the soil as dry and stripped as it might be and maybe that is part of your promise. The rain still falls, though unquestionably not as pure as it once was and maybe that is part of your promise.

Please, please, dear Mother,

Help us to listen, to hear, and to take the actions that can truly heal you and ourselves.

Dear social media community, you are not a commodity to me. No a single one of you.

Some of you are clients and students, but before you became so we already had a connection.

I did not flood your inbox with offers or promises of what I can do for you because that's not how I operate and I frankly have no idea what that might be until we talk. Until that thread becomes visible to both of us and we start to watch it sway in the wind and wonder where it might take us.

A lot of you I have gotten to know a bit here and there slowly over many years. Some precious few of you I know in person, but many of you are barely acquaintances and that's okay, too.

I am not here to see you anything, to convince you of anything, or to prove anything to any of you. My first and foremost preoccupation is to become as much of my Self as I can physically embody and to love, nurture, and share from that place. My secondary preoccupation is my actual occupation and that is to encourage people who wish for support to also find the courage to move—in their own way—from that holy, mythical, and embodied place.

That's it. That's the name of the game.

If we walk a while in a professional container I will pledge my support and presence to you. If we walk awhile as social media acquaintances we will take each other we are drawing closer or drifting away. If we are true and fast friends we will probably get more than either of us have bargained for.

But regardless of whatever shape our connection takes I can offer you no more or no less that who and what I am. And I will see the same in you and raise it!
