Ok, I've got some good news for you and some good news. Which do you want to hear first? I'll start with the good news.
The good news is that today's 3pm Screening of The Bike Cycle has sold out.

This is Joshua Douglass and Karen Manley, minutes before he was killed and she was injured on August 29th, victims of apparent road rage.
88-year-old driver Van Edward Lemaster told investigators he “just gunned it.” before accelerating onto a crowded sidewalk.

Newly obtained court records reveal that Van Edward Lemaster of Cheyenne, Wyoming, pressed his truck’s accelerator to 99% while reversing into traffic and again while driving onto the sidewalk. Vehicle data shows he continued accelerating through the sharp left-hand turn, with the truck’s engine management system temporarily reducing power before throttle returned to 99%. Investigators determined that his accelerator input would have overridden the truck’s automatic emergency braking system. Investigators found no known mechanical defects, and toxicology testing detected no intoxicants in his blood.

According to an October 13th arrest warrant affidavit, Lemaster faces seven criminal counts, including vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and reckless endangerment. He was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail on October 16th and released later that day on a $75,000 personal recognizance bond, without posting cash. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 8th.

In case you were wondering, during the Open Race at last night's Dirt Pile 33 of the riders were on drop bar bikes and 18 were on flat bars. I'm sure those numbers change drastically based on categories, but it was interesting to see that the vast majority were racing on cross or gravel bikes.

Ride Review: .hartmann 2025 Orbea Oiz.
junior .hartmann captured the Women’s Club Cross-Country Olympic (XCO) national title for the second straight year on Friday, October 16th, at Collegiate Nats at Powderhorn.

Bikes have been a constant for the Minneapolis native. Hartmann got her start racing on her high school cycling team with her father as head coach and her mother coaching alongside, developing through the Loppet Foundation’s Loppet Cycle Works (similar to ) and Donkey Label Racing, competing in three junior nationals with the team before heading to Fort Collins. She's currently studying Biomedical Sciences at CSU.

Fort Collins Police Services has formally charged Van Lemaster of Cheyenne, in connection with the fatal August 29th crash on Mountain Avenue that occurred near the end of Tour de Fat.

Lemaster was booked into the Larimer County Jail on Friday, October 16th, after the District Attorney’s Office accepted charges including:
• Class 4 Felony – Vehicular Homicide (1 count)
• Class 5 Felony – Vehicular Assault (4 counts)
• Class 2 Misdemeanor – Reckless Endangerment (2 counts)

Investigators ruled out impairment as a factor in the collision, which killed 33-year-old Joshua Robert Douglass and injured multiple others, including his partner Karen Manley.

Lemaster remains in custody on a $75,000 cash/surety bond. He is scheduled for a virtual advisement hearing today, October 16th, at 1:30 p.m., with an in-person first appearance set for October 22nd.
