Welcome to the Division of Athletics, Recreation, Special Programs and Projects. We provide services to enhance the student experience at UMass Boston and promote the University's engagement beyond the campus. Our Department of Athletics sponsors 18 varsity teams, nine for men and nine for women. In addition, we offer intramural and recreational programs for students, staff and faculty. UMass Bost

on is a Division III member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. We compete in the East Coast Athletic Conference, the Little East Conference, and ECAC East Hockey. Beacons team members have been named All-Americans 98 times in nine different sports. In addition, our Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams have won four NCAA Team Championships and 38 individual championships. In 2010, our Women's Volleyball and Men's Baseball teams not only were New England champions but also were invited to compete in the national championship playoffs for their sports. Through our Special Programs and Projects, the Division is in the forefront of providing athletics outreach to local neighborhoods, the state, and even overseas audiences. We provide complimentary use of the University's athletic facilities for community groups; we offer student athlete sports clinics for young people; we make holiday visits to hospitals; and offer many other, similar services. More than 150 school, charitable, governmental, and private organizations use UMass Boston athletic facilities for over 2100 hours each year as participants or spectators. Along with the University's Office of Community Relations and the Division of Student Affairs, the Division provides staff support to the Urban Mission Coordinating Committee and manages the Harbor Point Agreement to ensure harmonious neighborhood relations. With the Department of Africana Studies, the Division implements the international exchange program YES (Youth, Education and Sports) with Africa, a multiethnic, coeducational sports and leadership initiative that is currently based in Senegal and Benin and has served over 1,500 African youth.
