Same game. Same score. Same frustration. Two very different responses.

Emotion regulation is a mental performance skill that helps athletes recognize and manage their emotional responses in ways that support their performance.

It’s not about eliminating frustration, disappointment, or nerves. It’s about developing the skills to navigate those emotions without losing sight of what the situation requires.

And like any other performance skill, it takes practice- that’s what we’re here to help you with

Your program is in a few minutes. The nerves start way earlier. ⛸️

The warm-up, the walk to the boards, the wait for your name. That’s where many skaters lose their calm, and it’s the part you can train. Four steps that help: shake out tension, breathe out longer, picture your start, and pick one cue word.

Practice this routine at everyday practices, not just at competitions, so it’s automatic when it counts.

Which cue would you pick for your next program?

Save this for later. Train your brain. Train your algorithm. Develop persistence 🧠

AASP Annual Conference 2026!! 🩰🎭🎬🎤🤹‍♀️

This year the performing arts were represented at AASP like NEVER before and we are so encouraged!!

It was awesome to kick off the conference with Dr. Chelsea Pierotti and present an applied skills session on adapting mental skills for performing artists- thank you to everyone who came to learn and participate!

It’s pretty incredible to walk around and see Persistence Performance Group co-owners on the performing arts SIG coordinator poster too!

Tony Hebson Williams led the AASP Performing Arts SIG meeting and kicked us off with a dance party which should become a tradition for sure 🕺🏼💃🪩

Connecting wirh other passionate professionals and students in the field is one of the best parts of the AASP annual conference!

One final day of learning and networking- if we haven’t met, come say hi!! 🪩

You can be dedicated to your craft and give yourself permission to rest. 🧠
Athletes and performers are often great at pushing through discomfort, fatigue, and challenges. But when pushing through becomes the default, it can be easy to miss the signs of burnout.
Rest is part of the process. Your worth is bigger than your performance. And asking for support is a strength, not a weakness.
You don’t have to wait until you’re running on empty to take care of yourself. 💛
Train your brain. Train your algorithm. Build sustainable resilience.

Are you performing, or watching yourself perform? 👀

When your attention shifts to how you look, sound, or come across, your body tends to tighten and your timing gets stiff. Performers in every discipline call it “being in your head.” Four ways back in: look outward, feel instead of grade, pick one cue, and save the review for later.

Try it in your next rehearsal and notice what changes.

What pulls you out of the moment most?

Save this for later. Train your brain. Train your algorithm. Develop persistence🧠

Excellence leaves room for mistakes, learning, and adjustment. Perfection leaves you feeling like none of it is ever enough.

Keep your standards high. Give yourself credit for progress. Let a mistake be something to learn from, rather than a verdict on your ability.

Excellence over perfection.

We’re excited to partner with Ballet Northwest to bring mental skills training into the studio! 🩰

Together, we’ll help dancers build confidence, manage performance nerves, strengthen focus, and develop routines they can use in class, rehearsal, and on stage.

Thank you to Ken and Josie for making this work part a consistent of your dancers’ training. We can’t wait to get started! 💙
