Thomas Massie, Ed Gallrein, and the Cost of Replacing Constitutional Conservatism with Obedience

Some have perverted and co-opted the word “conservatism” until it means little more than loyalty to the Republican Party. It does not.

Thomas Massie’s defeat should not be celebrated as a victory for liberty, the Constitution, or conservatism. It should be understood as a warning.

When a legislator is punished for opposing debt, omnibus spending, foreign-policy blank checks, gun control, and executive obedience, the problem is not that he was insufficiently conservative.

The problem is that too many people have confused conservatism with party compliance.

Congressman Thomas Massie put it well in his concession speech:

“If the legislative branch always votes with the president, we do have a king. If the legislative branch always votes whichever way the wind is blowing, then we have mob rule. But if the legislative branch, and the representatives and the senators that serve with it, always follow the Constitution, we have a republic.”

New episode of The Forge of Freedom is live.

In Episode 206, I’m joined by renowned Second Amendment attorney, historian, and author Stephen Halbrook for a breakdown of one of the major gun rights cases currently pending before the Supreme Court: *United States v. Hemani*.

We discuss the federal prohibition on firearm possession by “unlawful users” of controlled substances under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(3), how that law applies to ma*****na users, and how the case fits within the Bruen text, history, and tradition framework.

We also cover:

• The difference between facial and as-applied challenges
• The government’s historical analogues and whether they hold up
• How Rahimi affects future Second Amendment litigation
• Public carry restrictions
• “Assault weapon” and magazine bans
• What issues may be headed back to the Supreme Court next

This is an important conversation for anyone following the future of the Second Amendment.

In this episode of Forge of Freedom, the host, Alex sits down with our very own Jacob Paulsen, founder of ConcealedCarry.com, creator of Mountain Man Medical, and host of the Guardian Conference.

The conversation explores Jacob’s mission-driven approach to self-defense, the evolution of his companies, and how the Guardian Conference represents a unique “buffet-style” training experience designed to expose attendees to a wide range of instructors, disciplines, and skill levels.

More than just gear or shooting proficiency, this episode dives into the broader philosophy of responsible armed defense, training, mindset, medical preparedness, and community.
