First and foremost, I want to say just how proud I am of our girls. ❤️💙💛
Making it to the Gold Bracket in our first two tournaments of the season at the 14U level, while competing against some very good teams, many of which are older 14U teams, is no small accomplishment. These girls have already shown that they belong.
As coaches, we will never intentionally “sandbag” or try to lose games just to put ourselves into a lower, easier bracket. That doesn’t promote growth, development, or confidence. We believe in challenging these girls, putting them in uncomfortable situations, and giving them opportunities to compete against the best competition out there.
We have a really good team. We see the talent. We see the potential. We see what these girls are capable of. Now, they have to believe it too, and more importantly, they have to want it.
I came across a quote that really stuck with me:
“I would rather see you fail pursuing greatness than succeed at being average.”
That is something I’ve tried to instill in these girls from the very beginning. I would much rather watch them battle, compete, and potentially lose in the Gold Bracket than play it safe and win in the Bronze.
Because playing great competition makes you better. Being challenged makes you better. Getting knocked down and learning how to get back up makes you better.
We aren’t chasing easy wins. We’re chasing growth. We’re chasing confidence. We’re chasing greatness.
These girls are capable of competing with anybody. The ability is there. The talent is there. The opportunity is there. Now it’s about believing in themselves, trusting each other, and wanting it badly enough to go get it.
As coaches, we will continue to work with them, push them, challenge them, and help them grow, not only as softball players, but as young women.
They are all great kids with tons of potential, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what they accomplish as the season continues.
Keep working. Keep believing. Keep competing!
The best is still ahead of us. 💪🏼
We are the Carolina Wrens, we don’t run from the challenge. We embrace it! 🐦🥎
