My dad is just your average lake fisherman. Bass and walleye mostly. What would you recommend?

When we started Cast Yer Bait, we wanted to be able to offer a wide variety of rods that would cover a number of species. All you need to do is select your favorite color for the guide wraps and trim and let me get your new rod handcrafted. While fishing can be better on overcast days, it doesn’t mean sunny days aren’t good for fishing. Many fish species prefer cloudy days. Or it seems they prefer cloudy days. When it is overcast, the visibility is lower. Therefore, the fish need to move away from cover to see food, and also feel more comfortable with the lower visibility. This is why it may seem easier to catch them. On overcast days, you may not need to throw your bait into or right next to the cover. While on sunny days, the fish often sit in and under cover and it may be more critical to make the perfect cast. Depending on the cloud cover, you may also need to adjust the size and color of the bait thrown. On overcast days, you can stay with the darker color, but larger profile baits. Something that moves the water and the fish will be able to feel. When it is sunny, you can focus on the lighter colors and smaller profiles baits because the fish can see them better. They don’t have to rely only on the lateral line to detect prey. Just remember, make accurate casts. All of the Cast Yer Bait rods make it easier to hit the target.

Water temp plays an important role in catching fish and where you can catch them. This could be a lengthy discussion, but the simple description of how fish react to water temp is that largemouth bass typically like the warmer water. Largemouth spawn in water from 55-70. They are active protecting their beds during this time. The best fishing typically starts a couple weeks after they leave their beds and continues through the summer. They can be caught on fast action baits in water temps as high as 85. Now, smallmouth and walleye are a little more finicky when it comes to water temps. Both species prefer colder water. Smallmouth spawn in temps from 55-60, walleye spawn from 44-50. However, both of these fish typically are most active in water around 70-75. This is when they are not lethargic from cold water or stressed from the hot water. They are the most efficient and strong during these temps.
