WEEKEND RECAP!

Our 17U Breakers kicked things off Friday night with a showdown against the Bellingham Men’s League All-Star Team. After building a 6-2 lead in the third, the All-Stars decided to flex their… experience muscles 💪😅 (okay, maybe their knowledge and old-man strength too 🤣), storming all the way back to steal a 7-6 win with less than 90 seconds left.

Saturday morning? No sleeping in. 📈 The boys earned every step at the track before cashing in their reward with an awesome Chipotle spread hosted by Olivia Saarheim Huvane 🌮🚤☀️. Great food, great people, and the vibes stayed sky-high all day. 🙌

We wrapped up the weekend with some stick & puck alongside local players, continuing to sharpen the tools and build chemistry. 🏒

Now the tone has officially been set. Four weeks of work, growth, and preparation before the boys officially report for the season. Let’s get after it. 💙💛

🚨 SIGNING 🚨 Yarik Sokolovskiy ⭐️

Yarik Sokolovskiy joins the Bellingham Hockey Club 17U AAA forward group as a dynamic addition, bringing a blend of creativity, resilience, and a distinctly skilled style of play.

From Fendale, WA and a Russian-speaking athlete, Yarik’s game reflects the classic traits often seen in highly skilled Russian forwards, elusive puck control, and patience under pressure. He spent years developing his craft independently alongside his grandfather, building a foundation rooted in repetition, detail, and a deep understanding of how to create offense in tight spaces. This season, the focus will be on expanding his game and supporting his ongoing development.

Yarik is a crafty forward who is not afraid to think his way through the ice. As he continues to develop, a key focus will be expanding that approach into a more connected game, learning to consistently leverage his teammates to open up his full offensive potential and enhance overall team play.

One of his most recognizable habits is his willingness to circle back and re-attack space when lanes close, showing both confidence and composure with the puck. He is also not shy when the game turns physical, competing through contact and showing a willingness to engage in the tougher areas of the ice.

Yarik’s journey back from a serious leg injury speaks volumes about his determination and commitment. The work required to return to form has only strengthened his approach to the game and his appreciation for every opportunity on the ice.

Conditioning and pace management will be continued areas of focus as he builds toward sustaining his impact over the full length of a game, rounding out an already highly skilled foundation.

Equally important, Yarik is a great kid with an outstanding attitude and presence in the room. He’s truly a player that teammates enjoy being around. It’s hard not to like Yarik, and he brings a positive energy that complements his competitive edge.

🚨 SIGNING 🚨 Jack Strong ⭐️

From Delta, BC, the Bellingham Hockey Club is proud to welcome Jack Strong to the Breakers family for the 2026-27 season.

Jack joins us as one of six Canadians on this year’s roster and one of three goaltenders who will make up our battery. After shouldering a tremendous workload for his club last season, he arrives in Bellingham with experience that can’t be taught.

Jack’s game is defined by precision. His movements are economical, controlled, and purposeful, allowing him to arrive on angle early and stay square to shooters without wasting energy. Rather than relying solely on athleticism to recover from mistakes, he reads the play exceptionally well, anticipates developing opportunities, and consistently puts himself in position to make saves look routine.

What stands out just as much as his technical ability is his mental approach. His consistency, attention to detail, and ability to remain even-keeled are qualities every coaching staff looks for in a goaltender.

Away from the rink, Jack is the definition of a well-rounded athlete. A multi-sport competitor who also excels in golf, baseball, and volleyball, he brings the coordination, body control, and competitive drive that naturally translate to the crease. Those experiences have helped shape his athletic foundation while reinforcing the discipline and work ethic required to compete at a high level.

As impressive as his play is, the person behind the mask may be even more valuable. Jack brings an infectious positivity to the locker room, and his smile has a way of lifting the energy of everyone around him.

Jack has already proven he can carry a heavy workload, but we believe his best hockey is still ahead of him. With his technical foundation, strong hockey IQ, athletic background, and positive mindset, he has all the tools to continue developing into an impact goaltender at the next level.

We’re thrilled to welcome Jack to Bellingham and can’t wait to watch him represent the Breakers this season.

🚨 SIGNING 🚨 Parker Barrett ⭐️

Bellingham Hockey Club is proud to welcome Parker Barrett to our group as a hometown addition.

A Bellingham native, Parker is a power forward who brings a direct, hardworking style to the ice. His game is built on effort, detail, and a commitment to doing things the right way. The upcoming season will focus on development, and his growth to this point is already evident, with noticeable physical improvement reflecting the work he’s been putting in day after day.

Parker plays with a head-down, nose-to-the-grindstone mentality that translates into consistent effort shifts and a willingness to do the hard work in all areas of the ice. He wins a high number of puck races and has shown a real ability to track down defenders, turning hustle into offensive opportunities and momentum for his team.

Offensively, his shot and release continue to improve, becoming more dangerous as he gains strength and confidence. He is learning to get to his spots more efficiently and create offense off pressure, rather than just through effort alone. As his game expands, his overall development arc shows a strong upward trajectory, with clear signs that more growth is coming as he refines the finer details of his edge work and lateral movement.

Parker also brings leadership and character to the group, having served as an assistant captain last season. He is a good teammate, well-respected in the room, and someone who leads with strong values, inclusivity, and a genuine care for those around him. His approach to the game and to those around him sets a standard that impacts teammates both on and off the ice.

We believe Parker has all the ingredients to become an impact player for years to come within our program. His foundation of work ethic, combined with his ongoing pursuit of excellence makes him an exciting addition to the Bellingham Hockey Club.

🚨 SIGNING 🚨 Maurin Engel ⭐️

The Bellingham Hockey Club is pumped to welcome Maurin Engel to our 17U AAA roster.

Making the journey from St. Gallen, Switzerland, Maurin returns to the Pacific Northwest as a dual citizen after being born in Kirkland, Washington. Following a season competing in Switzerland’s top U18 league with EHC Winterthur, he’ll now continue his development wearing the Bellingham crest.

Maurin is the type of center who changes the geometry of a hockey game. While many players attack in straight lines, he sees the entire width of the ice as an opportunity. He constantly drifts into quiet pockets of space, pulling defenders out of position before delivering a pass or creating an opening that wasn’t there moments earlier. His ability to manipulate time and space makes his game as effective as it is entertaining.

His skating is effortless, allowing him to glide through traffic with balance and control while staying one step ahead of the play. Rather than relying on raw speed, Maurin uses edge work, deception, and patience to dictate the pace, making defenders react to him instead of the other way around.

As dynamic as he is offensively, his commitment never stops at the offensive blue line. Maurin embraces the responsibilities of playing a complete 200-foot game, supporting teammates in every zone, winning pucks back, and taking pride in the details that help teams win. That combination of offensive creativity and defensive responsibility is what makes him such a valuable player down the middle.

Maurin brings an international perspective, a team-first mindset, and a style of hockey that makes everyone around him better. His vision, intelligence, and complete game are exactly the qualities we’re proud to add to the Bellingham Hockey Club family.

Bellingham Hockey Club is thrilled to welcome Mason Moore to the Breakers 17U AAA family.

The best goaltenders don’t just stop pucks, they settle games. They communicate. They compete. They make everyone around them feel a little bigger because they know someone reliable is standing behind them. That is “Mooresy.”

Originally from Colorado and now calling Stanwood, Washington home after relocating from Seattle, Mason arrives with an athletic foundation that extends well beyond the rink. A high-level lacrosse player standing north of six feet tall, he brings quick hands, explosive reactions, and the competitive edge that multi-sport athletes often possess.

Mooresy plays with confidence that never crosses into complacency. He challenges shooters aggressively, tracks the puck through traffic, and refuses to surrender on second or third opportunities. Every save is earned, every rebound is contested, and every loose puck becomes a battle he’s determined to win.

His impact reaches far beyond stopping shots.

Mason is constantly engaged with his defensemen, directing traffic, identifying pressure, and helping breakouts before they even begin. That voice from the crease gives his teammates confidence, allowing them to play faster and with greater certainty. A goalie who communicates well can change the pace of a game, and Mason embraces that responsibility every shift.

Mason brings the athleticism, hand-eye coordination, and competitiveness that translate naturally to the goaltending position. His willingness to battle through every sequence and compete for every puck makes him the kind of goalie teammates love playing in front of.

Off the ice, he’s an upbeat, supportive teammate who raises the energy around the room and embraces the success of everyone wearing the same jersey.

As his technical game continues to mature and he gains even more consistency in his reads, Mason has all the tools to become one of the premier netminders in the region.

🚨 SIGNING 🚨 Colton Pereira ⭐️

Before talent reveals itself, character usually does.

Bellingham Hockey Club is proud to announce the signing of Colton Pereira to the Breakers 17U AAA roster.

Born on Long Island, NY, and spending his first five years in Holbrook before calling Blaine, WA home for the past decade, Colton’s hockey journey has never been about racing to the finish line. He’s the definition of a late bloomer, a player who has steadily built his game year after year, proving that development isn’t measured by when you arrive, but by the direction you’re heading.

Standing 6’2” on the blue line, Colton brings a calming presence every time he steps over the boards. A left-shot defenseman with an exceptional hockey mind, he consistently makes the correct read, even when a play doesn’t unfold exactly as it was drawn up. The game rarely surprises him because he’s already processing the next option before most players recognize the first.

One of the most underrated parts of Colton’s game is his ability to advance the puck. Rather than forcing risky stretch passes, he understands how to use the boards, soft touch, and open ice to create area passes that allow teammates to skate into possession at full speed. It’s a subtle skill that often goes unnoticed, but it’s the kind of detail that helps winning teams spend less time defending and more time attacking.

As impressive as his on-ice awareness is, it still isn’t what separates him most.

Having been a Captain, he understands that leadership isn’t reserved for speeches or being the most vocal in the room. His greatest strength is his ability to connect with every teammate, regardless of where they’re from, their personality, or their role on the team. Every locker room has different personalities, and Colton has a rare gift for making each person feel valued.

The exciting part is that there’s still another level waiting to be unlocked.

🚨 SIGNING 🚨 Stefan Freiman ⭐️

Another high-impact forward has been added. The Bellingham Hockey Club 17U AAA team welcomes Stefan Freiman to the family.

Born in Los Angeles, CA, and raised in Washington, Stefan arrives in Bellingham as a player whose game has been built on intelligence, patience, and relentless dedication to improvement. While his path included competing at the AA level, those who watched him closely know his skill set has long reflected that of a AAA player. Rather than letting circumstances define his journey, Stefan continued to develop every facet of his game, trusting that the opportunity would come.

Stefan is the definition of a cerebral forward. He doesn’t force plays that aren’t there or rush headlong into traffic simply for the sake of it. Instead, he slows the game down, reads the ice, and allows opportunities to develop before striking. His ability to anticipate the next play often puts him one step ahead of defenders, creating offense through vision and poise rather than panic.

His athletic background in lacrosse has only sharpened those instincts. The creativity, spatial awareness, and quick decision-making developed in that sport translate seamlessly to the ice, giving Stefan another layer to an already polished offensive game.

Beyond his skill, Stefan has earned the respect of teammates everywhere he’s played. Having worn the captain’s “C,” he understands what it means to lead, not just with his voice, but through his preparation, composure, and example. He raises the standard in the locker room as naturally as he does on the ice.

Stefan embodies the type of player and person we want representing Bellingham Hockey Club. His leadership, hockey IQ, and commitment to continuous growth make him an outstanding addition to our program, and we’re excited to watch him take the next step wearing our crest.
