Everyone, please comment on these proposals. Whether you agree or not, please let your voices be heard. There are some significant changes proposed. For example, units in southeast Idaho have proposals to change from any weapon mule deer to muzzleloader only October 10-24. Speak up now. Once the changes are made, they may never come back. For better or worse.
I believe that overall deer numbers are more effected by winter kill than harvest numbers from hunters. They have been taking away opportunity for years and there is no real benefit being seen in increased mule deer numbers. It is a complex and heated topic, but if you look at the data, harsh winters are the biggest influence to deer overall numbers.
Perhaps a better/more consistent winter feeding program is needed? I know that will increase risk for disease, but deer that die from starvation can't spread disease anyway. I would rather have more deer numbers and risk the disease than have them take away opportunities to hunt, only to have deer die off by the thousands every time there is a bad winter.
What are your thoughts? I am open minded and would love to hear opinions.
