A big part of what you gain when you feel like your habits are on the right path…is caring less and less about what folks think about you and the things you do.

Maybe for you it’s not about wearing graphic tees.

Maybe for you it’s about focusing on building muscle while your ā€˜friends’ are more focused on not getting too bulky.

Maybe for you it’s about having some flexibility in your diet while your Mom says she ā€œcan’t believe you eat thatā€.

Your goals and preferences are yours.

No one else’s.

Stay the course āœŒšŸ¾

One of my favorite quotes from Marcus Aurelius -

ā€œThe impediment to action advances the action.
What stands in the way becomes the wayā€.

Obstacles, challenges, and problems…can either be seen as a sign to quit, or as an opportunity to learn something new.

Guess which way I believe you should go?

Hard truth: The fear doesn’t go away before you start.

Gymtimidation is real, and instead of trying to avoid it, I challenge folks to face it head on.

People are going to look at you.

There are going to be machines you don’t know how to use.

Neither of those things (or the 8 other scenarios in your head) have to be reasons to avoid taking control of your health and fitness.

Your goals are more important than the assumed judgement of people who aren’t stakeholders in your life.

As you take the next step, maybe the fear backpack becomes a little less heavy…or maybe you become stronger, or it feels lighter.

Either way, make the next move šŸ’ŖšŸ¾

Folks seem to think that conditions need to be near perfect to figure out whether or not a plan is a good one.

I’d argue the opposite.

I recently asked a client ā€œHow has your energy felt during this first week of the new workouts?ā€

Their response: ā€œI don’t know that this past week is the best judge of that. Things have been busy with work and just making that transition out of the Summer scheduleā€.

I challenged them to think the opposite.

Your workouts should be built in a way that allows you to get them done WITH your busy schedule…not IN SPITE OF it.

Having options to swap equipment and work within different reps ranges is (to me) the sign of a program built for adults who have responsibilities and things to do.

Consider this before you label the past week as a ā€œfailā€ because you completed 2 out of 5 planned workouts.

Maybe you need to be real about what most of your days/weeks look like šŸ‘€

Transformation photos might be lying, but not in the way you think.

In this age of AI-everything, you might assume that I’m talking about photoshopped or AI-generated before/after photos being the main problem.

Yes, that’s a problem, but also be aware that it’s not uncommon for pages to feature photos from real people who’ve gone through real transformations…either on their own or by working with someone else.

That’s why when asked ā€œHow can I really figure out what a coach/trainerā€ is all about, I recommended that the person seek out long form content like podcasts or vlogs, subscribe to their email lists, read their blogs, and attend free workshops they may offer.

If possible, reach out to the person directly.

Spending time consuming more of that persons content in a long form is going to do way more for you than scrolling more and more 30 sec Reels will ever do.

I hope this helps āœŒšŸ¾

Expecting every workout to be a banger is a quick way to feel like you’re not doing it right.

Every experienced lifter I’ve talked to has had a trash workout before.

The one where everything felt heavy and it felt like it just dragged on forever.

Today, that was me.

The separation point that creates consistency is in the next decision.

Decide that trash workout defines the day and the week…OR…

Take it for what it was, express gratitude for the simplest of things, and move on.

You decide āœŒšŸ¾
