Hasake The sport of the future. Hasake is also known as a Stand Up Paddle Board

Fishbone.Hasake is an updated version of a Mediterranean paddle board called a hasake that I became acquainted with as a little boy in Lebanon (my Dad was an American Foreign Service Officer). The life guards at the beach built hasakes consisting of a wood frame covered by tightly stretched canvas that was heavily painted to waterproof it. They would use the hasakes as rescue craft and would rent

some for recreational use to supplement their income. They taught me to ride and surf the hasake and thought it was funny the small American kid liked it so much.

Spring has returned to DC so this Sunday's activities are to clean the demo boards and get out there. I have a spot at Key Bridge Boathouse so I will be spending even more paddle time this year - I can ride my bike to work, stop on the way home and sunset paddle!

Georgetown to Alexandria by Haske in three hours.

Terrific paddle - lots of visibility - water conditions meant we were some of the only boards on the water.
