Please join K-9 Sports Club on Saturday, July 6, 2024 from 10am – 3pm at the Long Dog building in Berwick, Iowa (suburb of Des Moines) for a day of introductions and socializing. Dogs Welcome
K-9 Sports Club is an Iowa UKC club. We hold trials in Obedience, Rally, and Nosework.
We would love to grow our member/volunteer base.
Ever wondered how United Kennel Club (UKC) obedience and rally differ from American Kennel Club (AKC)? We’ll have Lorelle Jones on hand to help you understand the differences. Lorelle is a UKC and AKC Rally judge as well as a UKC Obedience Judge.
Ever wondered how UKC Nosework differs from AKC or NACSW? Susan Mikel and Chris Eblen, UKC Nosework judges, will be on hand to answer any questions about Nosework that you may have.
We will be offering an opportunity for your teams to participate in a UKC Socialized Pet Obedience Test (SPOT) test. SPOT evaluator, Anna Arndt, will be on hand to do that evaluation. Anna is also a UKC Obedience and Rally judge. The SPOT evaluation is similar to the AKC (Canine Good Citizen) CGC test and will take 10-15 minutes per team to do. Your dog does not have to be UKC registered to do this test. (www.ukcdogs.com for more detailed information)
SPOT test consists of 10 stations
Walking on a Loose Leash
Leave It
Doorway Manners
Loading and Unloading
Moving Dog Distraction
Manners with Distraction
Greeting an Approaching Stranger
Grooming Exam
Sit and Down on Command
Stay in Place and Come on Command
Teams will need a flat/buckle collar, slip collar, martingale, standard harness, head halter or Gentle Leader, or prong collar along with a 4’ or 6’ leash for the test.
Cost for the SPOT evaluation will be $25 per team. (Cash or Checks payable to Long Dog).
Sign up with Susan Mikel and you will be given a time for your test.
We have enough slots for 25 teams.
