POV: You started doing this exercise, and it fixed your posture, and your upper neck/shoulder pain went away.
It makes complete sense that your neck keeps feeling tight… even if you stretch it every day. Your neck wasn’t designed to hold your head in front of your body all day. Your head only weighs about 10–12 pounds... until it starts drifting forward.
Every inch your head moves in front of your shoulders increases the amount of force your neck muscles have to manage. When that happens, they aren’t just holding up your head anymore; they’re constantly working to keep it from falling farther forward.
That’s one reason so many people describe their neck and shoulders as feeling “tight.” That’s what happens when they are overworked.
So stretching them might feel good temporarily, but if the stabilizer muscles underneath aren’t getting more support, they often end up doing the same job all over again.
This movement helps retrain how your body stabilizes, so your neck doesn’t have to do quite so much of the work.
Exercises matter. Knowing why you’re doing them (and whether they’re right for your body) matters even more.
