Regressions and constraints like this are a great entry point to learning a skill that someone is not already competent in. They get to build some confidence and coordination without the car crash landings that often come with hopping.

Regressions are not replacements, they are tools to bridge the gaps between where someone currently is, and where we want them to be.

Ideally, I want my clients/myself to be able to perform exercises with zero constraints. That's the end goal, but god are they helpful for producing desired outcomes.

If you were to compare the effectiveness of constraints vs cues it's not even a competition. Constraint wins every single time.

I stole the sissy squat setup from .patdavidson and haven't had a single client who hasn't benefitted from it when it's been needed.

For reference I try and always phase out constraints with my clients as they become more proficient in the movement patterns.

"Modern man can't see god because he doesn't look low enough" - Carl Jung

If you can't find meaning where you are, in what you're doing, try looking lower. Simpler. In the places you haven't wanted to go in the past.

Diane has been dealing with some proximal hamstring tendinopathy & We've been using plyos as a large part of her program to get her back to running.

she can't do certain types or too high of volumes so grading her exposures and reducing impact makes a big difference.

She gets to practice the skill more comfortably, for higher volumes while we rehab and gain some size and strength.

Physical constraints are significantly better than verbal cues like "tripod foot" or "weight on your heel", though those do work for some people.

I wish I was able to eat more dessert, but it always says "I have a headache" 😢

-Again, this is not a solution for every elbow issue, but it's an easy stone to turn over if you're having problems.

-Reduce load, find things that don't hurt, and strengthen surrounding tissue at, above, or below the painful joint. Typically this is a recipe for success.
