29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29

As a firefighter, I’ve spent my career fighting fire looking for evidence… what I could hear, feel, and see! A “big” fire is easy- you can see the flames and smoke without requiring effort! A small fire requires more investigation but the evidence is still there- odors, heat, charring, etc. you just have to spend more time searching for it!

Thomas had the “big” fire experience when he saw Jesus after the resurrection. Thomas made an immediate transition from declared unbelief (John 20:25) to radical belief.

We, however, are required to search for something we cannot see.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8

I cannot see the wind but I can see the effects of wind in the trees, on the water, and in the fields. We all know that wind exists regardless of our ability to see it! In the same way, I have never seen Jesus but I can see the effects of Him all around me!
