Steve Mendoza meant a lot to our race team! He gave an opportunity to Matthew Kimball to run a Wheelen Modified Tour race at New Smyrna Speedway. Matt was a young tour racer at the time with little experience and yet he went out on a limb and invited us to his race shop and to go racing down south. We were very appreciative of the opportunity.

Steve will be greatly missed. Rest in peace. We all know that you'll be flying high watching racing from above and hanging over people's shoulders. Make sure you're up there betting on Matt because it's only a matter of time before he sees another checkered flag. Never goodbye. Always until we meet again! Rest easy.

Monadnock Speedway Announces Three Premier Tour Type Open Modified Events for 2026

Monadnock Speedway announce an exciting lineup of three premier Tour Type Open Modified events scheduled for the 2026 racing season at the famed High Banks of Monadnock Speedway )(as announced and scheduled last September).

The 2026 Open Modified schedule will feature:

Saturday, June 6, 2026 — $5,000 To Win
Saturday, July 4, 2026 — $7,600 To Win
Saturday, August 1, 2026 — $10,000 To Win

In addition to the impressive race purses, speedway owners Norm and Shirley Wrenn have announced a lucrative three-race championship point fund for competitors participating in all three events. The championship payout will include:

Champion — $5,000, 2nd Place — $2,500, 3rd Place — $2,000
4th Place — $1,500, 5th Place — $1,000

Speedway management also announced that the originally scheduled August 15, 2026 event date, first announced in September of 2025, has been moved to Saturday, August 1, 2026 due to a scheduling conflict with another series and speedway. Management believes the adjustment is in the best interest of the competitors and fans who annually support the highly competitive Open Modified events at Monadnock Speedway and the New England region.

The special Saturday, July 4th event will also award Modified Racing Series points to registered MRS competitors and will feature the theme “Racers Honoring Veterans.” in conjuction with the The Racing Guys

Monadnock Speedway management would also like to extend a sincere thank you to The Racing Guys for their continued support and contributions toward the Open Modified events. Their fundraising efforts have played a significant role in helping make these marquee events possible, especially the July 4th program.

In the event of a Saturday rainout, the event will be contested on Sunday. Should both the scheduled race date and rain date be affected by weather, the postponed event will be added to the speedway’s September 12, 2026 program.

Fans and competitors can expect three exciting nights of Tour Type Open Modified competition during the 2026 season at the High Banks of Monadnock Speedway.

We have bad news to report. Our dear friend & past sponsor Shaun James passed away. You will be missed. As many know, he struggled with many health issues but that did not define him! He was a caring individual who absolutely was infatuated with modifieds! He has sponsored several modifieds over the years and we were happy to be one of them, and to have him as a super fan of Mr. Modified himself. William Kimball, and then transition into a fan of Matthew Kimball was an amazing relationship for our race team. He had sponsored our race team as krj handcrafted jewelry & More with his wife Karen James. They were both amazing to the team. Always caring and wanting to help. We went the extra distance and insured to pick up a wheelchair ramp to bring to his house several years back because of how much they cared about our race team, and our family so we wanted to ensure to put the same effort back into helping Shaun when we had the opportunity too. He was also a huge supporter of anything dealing with WrestleMania. He loved collecting memorabilia, and staying up on the latest news with anything dealing with racing and wrestling! He truly was a great person, and ended up with a bad dealt hand over the last decade with his health. You will be remembered as the person that would show up to the modified races, as a dedicated fan, sponsor, and family! May God grant you everlasting life into his kingdom, and may your family down here on Earth see you again someday. RIP Shaun!

When New Hampshire State Police called about a disabled vehicle on I-89, we weren’t expecting this — a 1932 Bugatti Type 49! Definitely not your average tow. Always cool seeing a piece of automotive history up close.
