USAWKS STATE SUMMARY (Part 1)
State places will receive their own individual summary following this post one at a time. This will provide an update on how the wrestlers did that participated in the state tournament, but we’re not on the podium.

Kansas Elite qualified 10 wrestlers for the state tournament. Of those wrestlers for were able to place in the top three! Even though that did not place put for tremendous effort and represented the club very well!
Taelynn Bockover - Girls 14U 132 #
- Taelynn started off amazing with a 18–0 technical fall in her first match!
- In her quarterfinal match she started off just as strong with a fast takedown nearly to her opponents back. She finished the first period 3-0. She was unable to maintain her pace and eventually fell by the score of 3-7, which moved her to the backside of the bracket. She would learn that this competitor with later go onto place third and only lose once the entire tournament.
- In her fairest backside match she was able to pin her opponent (2:56) which put her into the blood round!
- In the second period. She broke the 0-0 tie by getting an escape, but was taken down and caught in a move that resulted in her losing this close match.
- Super proud of her and she will continue to grow and get better in her high school career as well!
Brylee Dent - Girls 8U 60 #
- It’s been a month and I still get teared up thinking of this heartbreaking series of events that led to Brylee winning the “tough stuff“ award this season.
- Coming off a district championship Brylee started right, where she left off the week prior. She stormed off to a 14-lead into the third period and was poised to complete a technical fall when she heard a whistle and stood up and started walking to the center of the mat. The whistle was not from her referee, her opponent immediately got up off of her back and charged at Brylee tackling her. Brylee, caught off guard, reached back with her arm to brace her fall and severely hyperextended her arm which was seen going nearly 180° in the opposite direction. It normally bends at the elbow.
- At the time of the incident, we did not know what happened, it wasn’t until the video was reviewed later that we noticed how horrible the injury was. Instead, Brylee fought off her back and still won the match 14–10 but was unable to get off the mat. She was insistent that her day was done and she could not wrestle anymore. We immediately got her to a trainer and started icing her arm to evaluate the damage.
- The emotions were running high from everyone involved, knowing that she was a favorite to reach the finals. standing across the gym. I looked across the floor and seen her standing behind her mat with her arm taped up, insisting she was ready to wrestle. She wrestled with one arm and a full heart of grit and passion that to this day I cannot think of a stronger little girl that I’ve ever met. She did not win this match, but scratched out of the tournament knowing she gave Wrestling everything she had that day and left it all on the mat.
Jaxon Kearn - Boys HS 132 #
- Placing forth in districts, Jaxon was placed up against the district one champion first round. Jackson had him on the ropes, leading 3–1 going into the third period. He gave up a reversal with some back points, which unfortunately caused him to drop the match 3-5 in a nailbiter to the finish.
- Due to some upsets on the front side of the bracket he was matched against another incredibly tough opponent. His state tournament finished early, but he was able to qualify, which was a big goal of his considering he had a severely torn shoulder that required embrace the remainder of his high school season.
Kym Middleton - Girls 8U 80 #
- Kim was our only beginner on our team that qualified for state this year!
- Her contagious attitude and constant positive approach to Wrestling is why she won the Sportsmanship Award this year. She’s not concerned about wins and losses, she truly wants to get better and I am sure she’ll be one of the best girls on the team next year!
Kashtyn Ryser - Bpys HS 190 #
-Ttaking a different approach this year. He went up a weight class and focused on strength and energy which paid off in districts, qualifying him for state, the last time doing so was in the club level where he placed the second in state.
- Kash is one of the very few wrestlers that has Wrestling in their soul. It’s in his genetics and it is his passion.
- I’m sure he’ll be in the room with us practicing anytime now during the off-season as he looks to qualify on the big stage in high school next year!
Keylie Shipp - Girls 10U 60 #
- This was Keylie‘s second trip to state.
- A co—winner of the Sportsmanship Award this year, Keylie always is a coach’s favorite in the room and at tournaments.
- she was unable to pull out a victory against too tough opponents, but we hope to see her back in the room, grinding, and improving her skills next year!
A big congratulations go out to the Kansas Elite state team!
