I did my Bolivar tour special today with Lonnie (retired First Responder) from Louisiana. Him and his wife were vacationing in Bolivar for a week. The tour consists of first doing a driving tour of Bolivar which goes from Rollover all the way to the Ferry landing. After the tour we typically launch at Stingarees unless there's a certain place they want to launch from. Tide was super super high today and incoming. We fished grassy areas and cuts in the marsh. Started off with a couple of undersized trout under a Lil Woodie cork. We were seeing tailing drum occasionally. Mostly big breeder drum. Lonnie missed a couple that disappeared. We spotted a big one where the tide was causing eddys. I made a cast to it and it took off like a freight train. Kept pulling me towards the back of the marsh for about 50 yards. Not too long after a drum tail popped up next to me. I made a cast and waited for it to turn around. When it did my cork went under then this big ugly had my kayak going in circles. Both big drum were caught on an Old 18 Kinetic medium light rod. No problem bringing those beasts in with it! Towards the end of the trip Lonnie hooked a nice flounder but it shook off right at the kayak. When we got back to the launch the tide had risen so much we almost floated the kayaks to the truck! π³
