If your goal is to “tone up,” let’s clear something up because this is where a lot of people get confused!
“Toned” isn’t a specific type of workout. It’s not just high reps, light weights, or sweating more.
Being “toned” really comes down to:
→ Building muscle
→ Lowering body fat (enough to see that muscle)
That’s it.
A lot of people lean heavily on cardio for a lean, defined look. And while cardio can help with calorie burn, it doesn’t build muscle in a meaningful way.
So you might:
→ Lose weight
→ But not feel as “tight” or defined
→ Feel smaller, but not as strong or shaped (aka skinny fat)
Muscle is what gives your body that sculpted look - shoulders, glutes, legs, core.
Fat loss just helps reveal it.
If you’re working toward that “toned” look, focus on:
→ Strength training 3–5x/week (and getting stronger over time)
→ Eating enough protein
→ Keeping your calories in a small, sustainable deficit
Under-eating can make things harder, your body needs enough fuel to build and maintain muscle.
It’s not about doing more, it’s about doing the right things consistently 🤍
