The Bangor City Council recognized the Friends of Dakin Pool board on Monday, September 25th, for their work to support the pool during 2023. The Honorable Richard Fournier, Mayor of Bangor, commended the Friends of Dakin Pool for the following:

Jump In! The Campaign to Support Dakin Pool has raised $83,712 toward the goal of $160,000.

During the summer of 2023 Dakin Pool was open seven days a week.

The campaign supports the resurfacing of the pool deck; replacing the old pool slide; repairs to the pool house; apparel and incentives for lifeguards, free admission at select times; and future pool upgrades.

The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation sent an unsolicited $25,000 grant on June 17th.

The Friends funded six days with free admission.

Provided a microwave, chairs, and a step stool for the pool house.

Purchased 26 rain jackets for the lifeguards.

Delivered free meals on the nights lifeguards worked late.

Promoted the pools hours on Facebook every day throughout the summer.

Posted alerts on Facebook when the pool unexpectedly closed.

Secured a $45,000 Commissioner’s Fund grant from the Penobscot County Commissioners to support resurfacing the pool deck and purchase a new pool slide.

Generated 19 news stories on Dakin Pool between April 12, 2023 and August 22, 2023.

The board appreciates the recognition by Bangor's City Council for their work. The campaign will continue fundraising through fall and winter, into 2024.
