The JV & Varsity traveled to Bonner Springs to wrap up the regular season and finished the season with a league sweep of the Braves to gain their 11th victory respectively.

JV Result:
Bonner Springs JV - 4
Baldwin Bulldogs JV - 7

After the host Braves scored four runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Bulldogs held them scoreless for the remainder of the game and the bats came to life in the later innings. Junior Quinten Flory started the season finale and pitched the complete duration of the game, pitching all five innings, scattering four hits and striking out seven Braves’ hitters. Offensively, the Bulldogs score seven runs on nine total hits, with four of them going for extra bases. Flory & Cooper Bradley each had multi-hit games with a single and double apiece. Sophomore Coltaun Wilks & Freshman Jackson Pavkov each had a triple in the game; Junior Ty Daly, Sophomores Lane Gosser and Declan Heltne each added a single in the contest.

The JV squad ended the season with an 11-8 record, three victories over league opponents, and the same number of wins as the last two seasons combined!! Congrats to Coach Wright and the JV Bulldogs on a great season!

Varsity Result:
Bonner Springs - 4
Baldwin Bulldogs - 5

In the nightcap, the Bulldogs only scored in the 5th inning, but took advantage of five walks and a couple timely hits, plus solid pitching from Sophomore Johnny Torrez to win their 11th game of the year and 2nd league victory!

Bonner struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and adding a single run in the bottom of the 4th to push their lead to 3-0. Baldwin answered back in the top of the 5th, Senior Tucker Bradley singled to start the inning, fellow Senior Seth Smasal replaced Bradley as a pinch runner, Torrez walked, and Sophomore Alex Chambers then delivered and RBI double down the right field line, scoring Smasal. Freshman Tyce Engemann reached on a fielder’s choice, then Senior Cedric Sansome walked to load the bases with two outs. Juniors Bryis Alford and Landry Quick both worked RBI walks to tie the game at three. Senior Brayden Hirschmann stepped to the plate for the last regular season at-bat of his career and came through with a clutch 2-RBI single, scoring Sansome & Alford.

Bonner Springs would not go down quietly, as the first two hitters in the bottom of the 7th inning reached. Torrez then induced a pop-up to short, a groundout to short, and a strikeout looking to strand the tying run at 2nd base! Torrez pitched the final six innings of the game, scattering three hits, striking out six, and gaining the first pitching victory of his varsity career!

Players of the game were Johnny Torrez for his dominant pitching performance, Alex Chambers for the RBI double down the RF line in the 5th inning, and Brayden Hirschmann with the go-ahead 2-RBI single in the 5th inning!

The Bulldogs await their playoff seeding and destination in the KSHSAA 4A East Regional Bracket starting next week.

Thursday May 7th - JV/V vs. Santa Fe Trail

JV Game
Santa Fe Trail Chargers JV - 3
Baldwin Bulldogs JV - 15

Varsity Game
Santa Fe Trail Chargers - 6
Baldwin Bulldogs JV - 7

After trading zeroes for the first three innings, Baldwin scored one in the bottom of the 4th & three in the bottom of the 5th inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Chargers took advantage of errors by the Bulldogs to tie the game in the top of the 6th inning, then would take a 6-4 lead by scoring two runs in the 7th inning. The Bulldogs came to the plate needing two runs to send the game to extras and did just that. Bryis Alford hit a chopper to 3rd and beat the throw to first, then scored on an RBI triple off the bat of Landry Quick. He would then score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 6 apiece. After a 1-2-3 top of the 8th, Johnny Torrez led off the bottom half with a walk and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Senior Cedric Sansome laid down a sacrifice bunt, which the pitcher fielded and threw to 3rd in an attempt to get Torrez out. The throw evaded the 3rd baseman and Torrez scampered home with the game-winning run!

Quick had another phenomenal outing, pitching all eight innings, allowing six runs which were all unearned, scattering six hits, and striking out seven. Quick & Brayden Hirschmann each had two hits apiece in the game!

The Bulldogs out hit the Cyclones 7-4 and had multiple runners in scoring position with less than two outs, just couldn't get a timely hit against a good Ottawa pitcher.
