Mountaineer Baseball joins Stuart W. Cramer High School in mourning the tragic loss of a member of their baseball coaching staff prior to last night’s playoff game at Burns High School. Our thoughts and prayers are with the coach’s family, players, coaching staff, students, and the entire Stuart W. Cramer community during this heartbreaking time. We also want to lift up the Burns Baseball Program and community for the compassion, strength, and support shown throughout this tragedy.

Tonight, the entire baseball community of NCHSAA stands united. 💜⚾️

2026 Mitchell Mountaineers Baseball Season Recap

With the 2026 baseball season coming to a close this past Friday in Cherryville, the Mitchell Mountaineers finished the year with a 12-14 overall record and a 3rd-place finish in conference play.

Four Mountaineers earned All-Conference honors this season:

* AJ Mackey
* Jaxon Rohr
* Hudson Buchanan
* Jacoby Dale

Despite several hard-fought battles, Mitchell proved they could compete with anyone on their schedule, suffering five one-run losses throughout the season.

Season Highlights—>

The 2026 season featured several major accomplishments for the program, including:

— Wins over every conference opponent
— Participation in the program’s first-ever Spring Break Series Trip
— Advancing to the 2nd Round of the NCHSAA Playoffs for the first time since 2017

Offensive Production—>

Offensively, the Mountaineers were one of the most dangerous teams around, consistently producing at the plate and creating pressure on the bases.

Team offensive numbers included:

— .318 Team Batting Average
— .432 Team On-Base Percentage
— 9 Home Runs
— 33 Doubles
— 7 Triples
— 90 Stolen Bases

Six players finished the season hitting over .300, while eight players posted on-base percentages above .400.

AJ Mackey led the power surge with 8 home runs on the season.

On the bases, the Mountaineers showcased their speed and aggressiveness:

Noah Vines — 17 stolen bases
Jacoby Dale — 16 stolen bases
Jett Williams — 11 stolen bases

Defensive Effort—>

Defensively, Mitchell battled through both highs and lows while continuing to improve throughout the season.

The Mountaineers finished with:

* .929 Team Fielding Percentage
* 4.54 Team ERA
* 13 Double Plays Turned

Ten players finished the season with fielding percentages above .950.

Sophomore Hudson Buchanan led Mitchell on the mound with:

* 41 strikeouts
* 44.2 innings pitched

Opposing hitters batted just .281 against Mountaineer pitching this season.

The future remains bright for Mitchell Baseball as the program continues building momentum and establishing a winning culture.

Season Recap:

The Mountaineers wrapped up their 2025 season on May 6th with a 0-3 first-round playoff loss at Hayesville. While the season came to an early end, there were plenty of bright spots to build on for next year.

Season Highlights:
- Tied the school record for wins in a season
- Finished 3rd in conference with an 8-4 record
- Team batting average: .313
- 3 players hit over .350
- Jacoby Dale set a new single-season hits record with 38
- Key Wins:
• 10-6 @ McDowell
• 6-5 @ Mountain Heritage
• 10-9 vs Madison
