A proud black belt and one of the longest-serving members of Sakai Karate Club, Bernard is a true inspiration to us all. His unwavering dedication, tireless commitment to training, and humble spirit exemplify the very best of martial arts.

At 79, Bernard continues to prove that age is no barrier—showing up, putting in the work, and setting the standard for perseverance and discipline.

Beyond the dojo, his passion extends into the community, having raised significant funds for charities close to his heart. Bernard is not just a karateka—he’s a role model, a mentor, and a shining example of what it means to live with purpose and generosity.

At Sakai, we are profoundly saddened by the loss of our teammate, friend, devoted supporter and true legend, Thomas Gibson 💔 on the 8.2.25. He was a remarkable gentleman with such a kind heart and an incredible source of inspiration in the karate community, a gifted athlete who served as a role model for many. We cherish the wonderful memories we shared throughout the years. He was a true champion with a wealth of titles, both internationally and nationally, including European, Dutch, Scottish Champion & Grand slam winner. His legacy will forever be honoured within the Sakai dojo. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Gone but never forgotten, our karate friend Tam. Ouss 🥋

Great competition at the Presidents Cup Sofia.. No medals this trip but some brilliant performances from all athletes and all fought with passion.. We were unlucky in few decisions. Long day over 10 areas, roll on the next trip.
