The very first Father’s Day celebration took place at the Spokane YMCA in 1910, inspired by Sonora Smart Dodd to honor her father, who raised six children on his own. More than 100 years later, we’re still celebrating the dads, grandfathers, mentors, and father figures who help shape stronger families and communities. 💙

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865 — the day the last enslaved African Americans in the United States learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day to reflect, celebrate Black history and culture, and recommit to building stronger, more inclusive communities for all.

Today, the French Creek Family YMCA welcomed leaders from the Ohio Su***de Prevention Foundation and community partners as they announced a new initiative focused on improving men's mental health and preventing su***de in Lorain County and across Ohio.

The effort is part of a two-year statewide initiative designed to expand su***de prevention strategies, strengthen community support systems and encourage men ages 24–59 to seek help when they need it. Participants discussed local mental health trends, the importance of reducing stigma and the need to create environments where conversations about mental health are welcomed and supported.

At the YMCA, we believe well-being includes spirit, mind and body. We are grateful to partner with organizations that are working to ensure individuals and families have access to the support and resources they need to thrive.

As the school year wraps up, it’s time to gear up for an exciting Summer League! ☀️ This is the perfect opportunity for new players to jump into the game and for returning athletes to sharpen their skills while enjoying the sun with friends. 🌸Programs like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our amazing volunteer coaches who dedicate their time to helping young athletes learn, grow, and love the game.
