! Magical close to an amazing season here at ! It was like a scripted hunting show. We watched this old buck on a daily basis in the early season and he always stayed out in the middle of this big oat patch where he was unreachable. When we moved locations HE moved. Then, in late November during the pre-rut he vaporized! For the past month and a half we haven’t seen him anywhere. Honestly, we were after a cull buck tonight since we figured this deer had been killed on another property. Then, about 20 minutes after I posted that selfie of Pete and me, he cane out of the brush and made a bee line to the does feeding on the oats right in front of us. My heart was beating out of my chest for little Pete. But he held his nerves and made a great shot and we actually watched him pile up. I WISH I’d have brought my video camera because it would have been amazing video. I cant imagine a better way to end the season than with a 11 year old shooting his first trophy buck that he chased for almost 4 months with me - without a single complaint about an itchy trigger finger. What a kid!

Congratulations to David Bryant, another of Nick’s semi-guided clients, who harvested this terrific mature with his bow! This was one of the biggest bodied deer of the season- he was enormous! Minutes after shooting this buck he had an enormous 12 point walk in and he provided the video we posted yesterday. The first couple days of his hunt was slow and then, like a light switch, it ‘turned on’ and he had a parade of big bucks!

Would YOU shoot this buck as he is in the video?

Check out this BEAST of a This 100% was filmed by one of my hunters minutes after he shot a very nice, mature 10pt! I’m so glad he didn’t get shot since he’s all broken up on his brows, G2’s and G3’s. I want to put a hunter on him NEXT season, when he’s in his full glory and max potential. I’ll be protecting him the rest of the season (10 days) and he’s in an area where he’ll stay on the property for sure.

THIS is why folks come to Brushy Hill Ranch - these deer ARE out here. This is a $5,000+ deer at most places. So, our $240 per day and NO trophy fees is one heck of a bargain! Who else offers 13,000 acres of day hunting. Those people who complained about the $60 per day increase in the daily rate and decided to look elsewhere really missed out. This is precisely why we increased the price and decreased the number of hunters we’re accepting - to help improve the quality of our deer herd and improve the hunting! This season has been proof positive that we did the right thing and are on the right track as stewards of this incredible property by God!

To those that claimed the ranch had been over-hunted.....HAHA! ROFLMAO! We suffered a unprecedented/biblical rainfall (2.5x our normal annual rainfall in 3.5 months) coupled with unseasonably warm temperatures throughout deer season last year. This created an abundant food source on top of limited access to most of the property during the 2018-‘19 season; preventing much success for our hunters. We tried to explain this to folks but ended up sounding like we were making excuses. Well......we weren’t and the proof is in the pictures from this season!

Thank you to all those hunters who DID stick with us after ONE bad year of hunting and to those new hunters that took us at our word! Your reward, besides your success, is locking in those terrific date and pasture combinations - they’re yours as long as you rebook for next season by March 15, 2020! There are lots of folks out there who are beating themselves up for not booking this year; and there’s a little poetic justice in that. Lol. We tried to tell y’all! Hey, there’s always next year.....if someone new hasn’t already claimed those dates you like. 😏

Congratulations to Chris Birdwell who took a really nice buck a couple days ago in the Hog Heaven. Thank you to all the hunters that have made a real effort to shoot mature bucks this year - that kind of management-conscious hunting helps us to produce a better herd for next year! We’ve only had 2 under bucks killed this season (which is still too many and both were fined heavily) but we’ve had less violations than usual. So, we want to thank all of you that made the effort, and sometimes the sacrifice, to use age as a primary criteria before pulling that trigger!

Congrats to Shaun Weaver who killed this terrific buck (the picture really doesn’t do this deer justice) out of the same semi-guided stand his dad killed his buck out of! He killed this buck 48hrs after his dad killed. Heck of a hunt for the Weavers this year and they’ve already re-booked for next season. Nick’s guided clients are shooting some great bucks this season. Just goes to show that stands can produce multiple deer if they’re in the right location. In fact, Nick had 4 separate clients kill 4 bucks out of the same stand in 2 weeks this season.

Here we go again! Mr. John Weaver does it again! This terrific 15 3/4” wide, very heavy 10pt is the 2nd buck he killed this season. He killed a great one several weeks ago on another trip to the ranch and now he finished out his season with a very mature buck with lots of great mass! Semi-guided stand strikes again. Lol!

Check out this Waver Tree bruiser! 100% fair chase whitetail! Best year in a long time. For all those who decided not to book this year because last year was so tough...OOPS!! We still have some room before the end of the season on Jan 19, 2020 and we’re accepting bookings for next season already. The historic rainfall and unusually warm temperatures last year made for a terrible hunting season; but that meant we had twice as many good bucks as usual this season. In spite of the great bucks taken so far this season, we’ve reduced the number of hunters we’ve had. This means that, going forward, we will continue to have a great whitetail herd that produces plenty of mature shooters annually.

Congrats to Adam Arnim on this beast! Look at the mass on this 100% fair chase buck that never ate a single piece of protein feed....EVER! Just goes to show what our native South Texas forage/browse can do with age and good genetics. Split brow tine on the left side (hard to see in the pics) and the right side has an extra brow - probably a matching split brow that got swallowed up by the incredible mass on that base/beam. The picture really don’t do the mass of these antlers justice.
