Auburn Endurance Capital of the World In April, 2003, the Auburn (CA) City Council unanimously voted to accept the proposed proclamation that Auburn is the Endurance Capital of the World™.

Auburn, California is home to some of the most challenging and historic endurance events on the planet. Its signature events, The Tevis Cup 100-Miles-One-Day Endurance Equestrian Ride (est.1955) and the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Run (est. 1974), are the oldest and most venerable endurance events of their kind in the world. The vast network of roads and trails, as well as the rivers and lakes, in the Auburn State Park and surrounding Sierra Nevada make Auburn a destination for endurance athletes of all levels and interests. The Auburn City Council officialy proclaimed Auburn, the Endurance Capital of the World™ in April 2003. In November, 2004 the Auburn City Council recognized the task force responsible for working with the Endurance Capital theme as an official City of Auburn Commission. This enthusiastic group works diligently to determine ways to use the “Endurance Capital of the World™” theme to enhance the well-being of the Auburn community by supporting and assisting related endurance activities. The Endurance Capital Committee is a committee of seven members appointed by the City Council. It was established to:

• Showcase endurance and outdoor sporting activities taking place in and around Auburn.

• Promote Auburn as a destination point for endurance and outdoor activities.

• Promote a healthier lifestyle.

• Strengthen existing events and attracting new events to Auburn

• Assist with the overall economic well being of Auburn.

In case you've missed it, last week the signage for the new water station (courtesy of the City's Endurance Capital Committee) was installed at the Art Park's restroom structure in Central Square. The water station includes adult & youth water fountains and a bottle filling unit. Huge thanks go to all who made this possible including Uptown Signs, the City's Public Works Department, City Council woman Alice Dowdin Calvillo. The ECC got this on our budget, found the location, sorted through the many options, o find the best unit, and collaborated on the signage text and art. A special thank you goes to ECC member Erika Thompson, who created the signage final designs. Happy hydrating!
