NEW YORK—Concerned Black men came together in Southeast Queens and held a town hall meeting on May 7 to chart a course of action to address the alarming violence in the area, particularly the recent killing of an unarmed 15-year-old Jaden Pierre, allegedly by an 18-year-old in Roy Wilkins Park on April 16 in St. Albans, Queens. The accuser was arraigned on May 20. “The State of the Black Man in Southeast Queens Town Hall,” organized by James Johnson, brought together a diverse cross-section of Black men representing every age group, socioeconomic background, religious affiliation, and level of academia,” said Brother Jacques Muhammad, Esq. “While there were difficult and honest discussions throughout the evening, one thing became abundantly clear: Southeast Queens has a plethora of Black men who are willing, ready, and able to confront the challenges facing our community, particularly helping our youth, especially our teenagers and young men,” he said.
