For a lot of Georgia families, the real start of fall isn't a date on the calendar. It's the opening morning of dove season. 🍂 The field is cut, the hay bales are out, and everybody you know is standing around the edge in the early light waiting on that first flight.
It was never really about how many birds you got. It was the cooler of drinks in the shade, the dogs working the field, the uncles telling the same stories they told last year. 🐕 Somebody's grandaddy in a lawn chair. Somebody's boy on his first hunt. That kind of morning.
The heat's still hanging on, but you can feel the season turning. Dove fields, then football Fridays, then the first cool snap. Down here that's about as good as the calendar gets.
Do you remember your first dove hunt, or the field your family always went to? 🌾
