Give your child the Competence, Confidence and Skills of aquatic safety and survival from Infant Swimming Resource (ISR), the safest provider of Self-Rescueโ„ข swimming lessons for children 6 months to 6 years of age. What Your Child Will Learn

Ages 6 months- 1 year: Children in this age range will learn to hold their breath underwater, roll into their back, and float unassisted. Students learn to

perform these Self-Rescue skills first in a swim diaper, then while fully clothed. Ages 1 year- 6 years:
Children in this age range will learn the โ€˜swim-float-swimโ€™ sequence. This sequence involves learning to hold their breath underwater and swim with their head down, roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe. Students then roll back over and continue the swim-float-swim sequence until they reach an edge or are able to crawl out or be rescued by an adult. Students will first learn this sequence in a swimwear, and then fully clothed. At about 3.5yrs of age and older, after your child has learned the survival skills, I can begin to work on some stroke techniques but I continue to place heavy emphasis on using the float to rest and breathe. Most older (4yrs+) child drownings do not occur because they can't swim, it's because they don't know how to rest and swim to exhaustion then panic.

Just remember parents floaties, puddle jumpers and other floatation devices encourage vertical swimming. A vertical swim is a drowning waiting to happen.
