Please don’t forget to join us this Saturday the 27th for our Alumni Match which is taking place at Bicentennial Park in Athens, TN on field 1 (large soccer field). Please arrive at 5pm for warmup. Please bring cleats, water, and a mouth guard.
A social will follow at Angela’s Miami Bar and Grill. We will have access to the bar and patio until they close around 11pm. We will be able to accept cash or check for merchandise/jersey sales.

Update on final Alumni Match:

It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of the McMinn County Highlanders Rugby Football Club. Unfortunately, due to lack of attendance, loss of funds, and inability to recruit, it is no longer feasible to operate the club in any manner whatsoever. We are thankful to those members who have attempted to assist in rebuilding the club, as well as to our Executive Board who has worked to shepherd the club through these difficult times. We are also very grateful for past players and coaches for creating many memorable seasons and giving people an opportunity to play rugby in McMinn County; the club a has made a positive impact on many lives.
In order to celebrate these past achievements and memories, we will be hosting one final informal touch session at 7pm on Wednesday, August 6th, at Regional Park in Athens. We will also be holding one final Alumni Match on Saturday, September 27th, at Bicentennial Park in Athens. This match will have both contact and touch rugby opportunities, with a social to follow. We encourage attendance at both, whether or not you are able to play. There will also be past merchandise, jerseys, and equipment available for sale. Past players on men’s and women’s teams, coaches, and supporters are all welcome to participate . Further details on time and location will be announced closer to the date of the event.
All proceeds from the sale of goods and all funds left in the club accounts will be used to issue a final Bailey Witt Memorial Fund Scholarship to be disbursed at the end of 2025 to a low income Tennessee Wesleyan University student, in honor of Bailey’s enthusiastic membership in the now closed Upward Bound program. We will also be accepting donations toward this scholarship at the event. Please direct any questions about these events or decisions to the Treasurer, Troy Moore, at (865)-617-4156.
Once again, we want to thank everyone who has worked to create and sustain this club, and we invite you to join us for the final send off on September 27th.

Our first practice of the spring season (for both men’s and women’s teams) will be this Wednesday, January 8th from 7-9pm. It will be at Bicentennial Park on Field 3. We would love to see you there!!

Looking for a new hobby? Wanting to get off the couch and back in an active lifestyle? Come join us this coming Wednesday night at Mouse Creek golf course for our Men’s/Women’s interest meeting! It’s that time of year again! Pumpkin town is right around the corner. Your local highlanders will be set up at booth 157 on North White Street. We will be selling some merchandise, having a bake sale, and a basket raffle! Stop by to have a snack and talk about rugby. We hope to see all of you there! 😎

Did you play for tribe rugby? Have you ever been a Highlander? If so we would love to see you out for our annual alumni game Saturday, August the 10th at Athens Regional Park. Men and Women alumni please arrive at 11:15am at the large soccer field to stretch with kick off at Noon. Afterwards there will be a social at Angela’s!
