The bicycle club's charity arm, the RABA Foundation, has been fundraising to buy hundreds of children's bicycles, build them, and donate to other charities, government agencies that support families, or elementary school systems since 2002. The program is called Bikes for Kids. The RABA Foundation President Andrew Mann was interviewed very recently by local CBS affiliate WTVR 6 - learn more about Bikes for Kids at https://www.wtvr.com/news/local-news/hanover-county/raba-heart-of-virginia-bike-festival-aug-27-2026 Donations to Bikes for Kids can be done at https://www.raba.org/bikes-for-kids/

Time flies when you are having fun - we are quickly approaching Saturday, August 1, where the last Ride for New Riders for the 2026 Summer riding season is happening.

These are rides for ANYONE who wants to learn a bit more about riding in groups, bicycle club RABA in general, or just hang out with some good riders and learn some traffic and safety skills! The only criteria is that you be able to pedal continuously for 45 to 60 minutes at a time and are somewhat comfortable riding on public roads and wear a helmet. The bicycle should be made to ride on the road (i.e., skinny tires). We'll provide training and advice on the ride to make road riding more palatable and safer.

We'll meet at Crump RF&P Park. After entering Crump Park, follow the road to the bottom of the hill and turn right into RF&P Park. Past the football field, turn right into an overflow parking lot. Look for my maroon Nissan Murano to the far right of the lot. Bring your bike, your helmet, some hydration and nutrition for the ride, whatever electronics you use, and a good attitude!

We will gather at 8:30 for a bit of a safety and skills lecture, then jump on bikes and ride to Ashland (approximately 10 miles), take a short rest, then return to RF&P Park. If you have a bicycle computer like Garmin or Wahoo, we will be using this route:

REMINDER: It's the next to last Ride for New Riders for Summer 2026! It will be held Saturday, July 11, at 8:30 AM. This ride is aimed at attracting new cyclists to RABA, new to group riding, and getting more people into the sport. For stronger riders, there will be a 12-mile extension. Road bikes (skinny tire) are strongly encouraged because the ride will be on roads; helmets are required.
