The Fun Run serves as the primary fundraiser for the Marianne Talley Memorial Scholarship Foundation. This non-profit organization, created in 1993, funds scholarships for college-bound athletes graduating from Arroyo Grande High School. The foundation grants three separate scholarships: the Marianne Talley, Oliver Talley and Don Talley Memorial Scholarships which combined have awarded over $200,0
00 to 42 worthy young men and women. Marianne was an avid athlete who competed in swimming, running, cycling, and triathlon events most of her life. She was a member of the SLO Roadrunners Running and Triathlon Club, and completed the Ironman Triathlon in 1992. She died suddenly on May 18, 1993 at the age of 25, from complications associated with heart arrhythmia. The Fun Run was established as an annual fund-raising event in 1994 and is dedicated to honoring Marianne’s memory and to her commitment to health, fitness and exercise.
