California Assembly Bill 1948 Changes CCW License Terms Effective January 1, 2027

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is providing notice of an upcoming change to California law affecting Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) licenses.

Beginning January 1, 2027, Assembly Bill 1948 (AB 1948) will change the maximum validity period for standard California CCW licenses. Under the new law, qualifying CCW licenses issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2027, may be valid for up to 3 years, instead of the current maximum of 2 years.

What This Means for Current CCW License Holders:

Existing CCW licenses will not automatically be extended as a result of this change.

If you currently hold a CCW license, your permit will remain valid until the expiration date printed on your license. Permit holders should continue to follow the renewal process and timelines provided by the issuing agency.

The updated license term will apply to qualifying CCW licenses issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2027, consistent with California law and issuing agency procedures.

What Is Not Changing:

AB 1948 only changes the maximum duration of a CCW license term. It does not change the requirements for obtaining or renewing a CCW license.

Applicants and permit holders must continue to meet all existing requirements, including:

• Background and eligibility requirements
• Required fi****ms training
• The application and review process
• Fi****ms qualification requirements
• Compliance with all laws regarding the possession and carrying of fi****ms
CCW holders remain responsible for understanding and following all applicable federal, state, and local laws related to firearm possession and carrying.

Sheriff’s Office Update:

The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is preparing to implement AB 1948 and will update policies, procedures, application materials, and public information as needed.

For questions regarding the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office CCW licensing program, please contact the Sheriff’s Office or visit our official website.

🚨 “GOOD GUYS WITH GUNS DON’T EXIST.”
Tell that to the people in this Missouri grocery store parking lot. 🇺🇸

In Pleasant Hill, Missouri, a man showed up at a Price Chopper with a rifle and opened fire in the parking lot, killing a woman and injuring a teenage employee. As chaos broke out and people ran for cover, two legally armed citizens who were already there did what gun‑control activists say never happens: they stepped in, drew their fi****ms, and moved toward the threat instead of away from it.

According to police, those armed citizens confronted the shooter and closed the distance, forcing him to turn the gun on himself and end the attack. There was no long wait for a SWAT team, no five‑minute response time, just ordinary people with carry permits who refused to let a murderer have free reign over defenseless shoppers. One innocent life was lost and another person was badly hurt, but it is hard to imagine how much worse it could have been if the killer had been allowed to keep walking and shooting unopposed. 🛑

This is what the Second Amendment looks like in real life: not slogans, not politicians, but citizens who are trained, armed, and willing to act when evil shows up where families buy groceries. Every time someone in power sneers that “nobody needs a gun in public,” remember Pleasant Hill. When seconds count, the people already on scene are the real first responders.

If a shooting started in your grocery store parking lot, would you want armed, responsible citizens nearby or just a “gun‑free zone” sign and a prayer that help gets there in time?
