Teen Community Combats Corona
Hello everyone,
First and foremost, we hope you and your families are safe and well. It is important we remain calm throughout this situation and rely on each other.
We are all acutely aware of the unprecedented circumstances that have affected the daily lives of the citizens of our country, the state of New York, and our very own Armonk community. It is easy to become scared and lose sight of the needs of others as we fear for our own immediate safety. As teenagers in the local area we realize that we are fortunate to be at relatively low risk for experiencing the severe symptoms associated with the COVID-19 virus. However, there are many older and immunocompromised members of our community that have to live in constant fear about the threats that contracting the coronavirus can have on their health.
As we ventured out into our local grocery stores to run basic errands for our own families, it became apparent that there were still many people in the “high-risk” category that were completing similar errands that could potentially have a much greater impact on their health. These people have no option but to pursue these activities themselves. In response to these new challenges that our community is faced with, we have decided to create a delivery service in which we perform the daily errands that those in the “high-risk” category (or those who feel uncomfortable leaving their house) would otherwise be completing under normal circumstances. By doing this, we hope to mitigate the risks affiliated with these basic tasks. We will be running this service Monday through Friday and accepting delivery requests from 10 AM through 7 PM. We will be accepting Venmo and Paypal, as well as cash payments with an option to contribute a four percent donation fee; however, these profits will go directly towards contributing to the Montefiore Health System COVID-19 Foundation.
We have already put in place procedures following the CDC’s recommended guidelines that will ensure the safety of our volunteers as well as the clients actively participating in our services. We will leave the items that we pick up at your doorstep, and we will be wearing masks and gloves that will be changed periodically as we complete errands. We are happy to have the opportunity to serve our community in a positive way and thus we urge you to contact us with any errands you need completed in the local area, no matter how large or small. If you are aware of anyone who would benefit from a service such as this one, please share our message with them and as many other people in our community as possible who are in the “high-risk” category.
