The team is here! We have been out the past two days fine-tuning sailing techniques, wrapping up final prep for R2AK, going through route options, and taking deep dives into weather forecasts and strategy.

The excitement is real and we are all incredibly eager for the adventure ahead and can’t wait to push off the dock and see what unfolds!

Race to Alaska is almost here!
The countdown is officially on, and Team Fly Girls is getting ready for one of the most exciting adventures on the water — the incredible Race to Alaska!
We’re so excited for all the events leading up to the start, from dockside meetups to community gatherings, safety checks, and the final buzz in Port Townsend before the fleet sets off north.
This is such a special time — the boats are coming together, the teams are finalizing preparations, and the energy is building every single day.
We’d love for you to follow along with us, come down to the docks if you’re local, and be part of the send-off celebrations.
You can follow the race, track teams, and get all the updates here:

Be sure to come say hello and ask one of our team members about them — we love sharing what they represent.

Sailing Sunday Definition #44

Windward
Definition: The direction from which the wind is blowing.

Think of it this way: if the wind is hitting your face, you're looking windward. Knowing where the wind is coming from is one of the most fundamental skills in sailing, influencing everything from sail trim to navigation.

There is now only ONE MORE Sailing Sunday definition before Team Fly Girls launches into the 2026 Race to Alaska. It's hard to believe we've almost completed this entire series and are just days away from putting all these sailing terms into real-world practice.

We really hope everyone will be following the race with us! The best way to do that is through the official Race to Alaska website. You can visit the Teams section to learn about all of the competitors, read team bios, and once the race begins, follow the official GPS tracker to watch teams make their way from Port Townsend to Ketchikan in real time. The tracker becomes addictively fun to watch as teams battle currents, weather, and each other along the Inside Passage.

You can follow everything at the official R2AK website:
Race to Alaska (R2AK) Official Website

Be sure to look for Team Fly Girls in the Teams section and then keep an eye on our progress once the tracker goes live!

Thank you to everyone who has followed along, learned with us, shared our posts, and cheered us on for this incredible journey. One more definition to go... and then it's race time!

PEDAL POWER: RELOADED!

Team Fly Girls’ pedal drive station is officially BACK on Fast Forward!

We removed our pedal station it so we could add extra bracing for the Sea Cycles and install our solar panel system. After a morning of reinstalling, reconnecting, tweaking, and testing, we're happy to report that everything is working beautifully (shown here in the up position.)

A massive THANK YOU to Mark Warren from Team Where Did Everyone Go for designing and building this incredible pedal station. The amount of engineering, creativity, and problem-solving that went into this setup is simply amazing.

From all of Team Fly Girls: thank you Mark for your time, talent, patience, and unwavering support. We truly couldn't have done this without you.

𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐤·𝐮𝐬 /ˈrəkəs/ 𝘯 a loud, beer-fueled reminder that this race is somehow both deeply serious and profoundly stupid. Features tattoos, pizza, Uncle Funk & the Dope 6, and racers making suspiciously confident statements about weather. It’s all the spirit of Race to Alaska, 10% of the danger.
