🚨 Banned for a Forfeit. Now a $566K Settlement.

In 2023, Mid Vermont Christian School’s girls’ basketball team forfeited a playoff game after learning their opponent had a male athlete on the roster, citing concerns about fairness and safety in women’s sports.

As a result, students were forced to travel out of state just to compete.

The school, alongside Alliance Defending Freedom, filed a lawsuit arguing the punishment violated their religious freedom and unfairly targeted their beliefs.

This week, that legal battle ended in a major outcome. The state has agreed to pay $566,000 in damages and legal fees.

That expensive and unlawful violation made by the state of Vermont has now set an important legal precedent in favor of girls as more and more men continue to launch lawsuits to force their way onto women’s playing fields.

In a recent podcast episode, Megan Rapinoe criticized the International Olympic Committee for implementing eligibility screening to protect fairness in women’s competition. Wife, Sue Bird supported her stance.

Here’s the reality:

Fairness in sport has always required standards.
We check weight classes.
We test for performance-enhancing drugs.
We verify age groups.

So why is it suddenly controversial to protect the women’s category?

At a recent US Masters Swimming championship, Angie Griffin—who has faced ongoing backlash after speaking out about fairness in competition—stood alongside Penny Noyes, one of the most decorated female masters swimmers in history.

A post from the New England region of USMS celebrating Noyes’ record-breaking performance showed her wearing a shirt that said it plainly: “Make Women’s Sports XX Again.”

That post? Deleted.
The message? Silenced.

All of this took place at Harvard’s pool, where Lia Thomas’ name remains on the women’s record board—alongside some of the greatest female swimmers in history—a looming reminder that men will be prioritized as women are erased.

We will not stay quiet.

Following the International Olympic Committee’s move to protect the women’s category, athletes are calling for change across U.S. sports.

As former NCAA All-American and ICONS cofounder Kim Jones said, “I absolutely call upon the NCAA to follow suit… Women and girls’ sports need to be protected at every level.”

And as ICONS’ made clear, “Any credible sports policy requires two things: a clearly defined boundary and a reliable enforcement mechanism. The NCAA policy has neither.”

The message is clear: protections and s*x-screening protocols must extend beyond the Olympic stage.
