There will be another forum at the Manila Community Center on Peninsula Drive on Thursday, October 29th. Not sure of the details yet. The League of Women Voters will moderate it again, but we won't be televised. A much more intimate setting. Keep your eye out for more news of that event. And don't forget to register to vote before Monday, October 19th!

MEET CAROL VANDER MEER: For the past 15 years, I worked as Executive Director for Friends of the Dunes with duties that included fundraising, facility management, budget oversight and program development. I currently work as a non-profit consultant providing strategic planning project management services, including work for Friends of the Dunes. I am a 20-year resident of Manila, currently serve on the Food for People board of directors, am active in Rotary, and enjoy hiking and kayaking on Humboldt Bay.

I want to be a part of a board where positive changes happen, community members with diverse opinions are treated with respect and residents are inspired to become involved in making our community a better place to live.
If elected, I will bring my skills as educator, volunteer coordinator and facility manager to the board and will listen to community concerns and interests when making decisions.

I will look for and welcome opportunities to build partnerships and collaborations that help the District efficiently and effectively manage facilities and resources.

MEET JAN BRAMLETT: I love this town! I have lived in Manila since April, 2008, and I've written a few songs about it. I hold a master's degree in anthropology and I work in social services, training and supervising volunteers for CASA of Humboldt which advocates for the needs of foster children. I have served on the MCSD board for the last four years.

MCSD recently received accolades from two State Water Boards for our low-impact, high-quality work. In the time I have served on this Board, we have achieved significant savings and efficiencies in the way our facility is run. I am proud of our General Manager's success in reducing our vulnerability to problems with water quality.

I will help guide this District in making improvements to recreation facilities and make sure our neighborhood is safe and enjoyable for people to live, visit, and play in. I will focus on improving and developing our parks and facilities and ensuring that we fulfill our mandate for dunes restoration.

I will help identify appropriate capital improvement projects and make sure that equipment is updated or replaced when necessary. If elected, I will work diligently to ensure that our District meets the goals of our mission in an efficient, cost-effective and safe manner.

MEET CARLA LEOPARDO: I have lived in Manila for ten years. My family and love it here and work hard to keep and maintain our home. I moved to Humboldt County in 1991 to pursue a degree in Wildlife Management and subsequently worked in the field for much of the 90s. Currently, I manage a flooring store in downtown Arcata and I walk in the dunes and on the beach whenever possible.

Now that the Family Resource Center is in the very capable hands of Bryan Little, the Manila CSD staff can concentrate their efforts on managing the water and sewer system and park. We, as a community, can concentrate on making Manila a safer and increasingly inviting place to live and play.

With many years of experience in customer service and management, I hope to bring conflict resolution and problem solving skills to the board. I will be honored to represent my neighbors and be an advocate for forward thinking, positive change in Manila.
