They'll never understand.
They don't know why we keep scorebooks like journals.
Why we jump out of our seats on every close play.
Why a perfect game pitched by a 12-year-old can make us cry.
But we understand.
We know baseball is bigger than the box score.
It's about hands taped up from gripping the bat too hard.
About the discipline to run poles in August heat.
About the trust to throw to second without looking.
and the unity of a team that's more like family.
It's about coaches who shape young men.
Teammates who have your back no matter what.
Kids who learn that you can strike out three times and still win the game in the ninth.
The 6am hitting sessions.
The championships won in extra innings.
The memories made in the dust and dirt.
None of it is wasted.
Because when they make that diving catch,
when they pop up and throw to double them off,
when the whole team storms the field,
That's magic.
Pure, unforgettable, earned magic.
And unless you've lived and breathed baseball,
you'll never fully get it.
