SULPHUR β Senior Kash Wisby is a wolf slayer once again.
Wisby lined a single to the outfield with one out in the bottom of the seventh as the top-ranked Pitkin Tigers rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Weston Wolves to advance to the Class B championship at McMurry Park on Tuesday.
With the win, Pitkin will take on the Glenmora Wildcats at 11 a.m. Wednesday on Field #40 at McMurry Park in Sulphur.
The Tigers fell behind in the top of the first as Weston scored an unearned run thanks to an RBI-single off the bat of Colton Blundell, giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead.
Weston pitcher Bryce Tolar worked four solid innings, throwing just 35 pitches, holding Pitkin to just one hit along the way.
After a scoreless fifth, the Tigers came to life. Gavin Holt singled and took second on a stolen base. He reached third on a sacrifice bunt from Wisby before scoring on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt off the bat of Lincon Stephens to tie the game, 1-1.
James worked around a leadoff single by Liam Weaver to retire the side in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for Wisbyβs heroics.
Wyett Sasser drew a leadoff walk to open the seventh and took second on a sacrifice bunt by Slade Dougharty.
Weston intentionally walked Holt, bringing Wisby to bat.
And just like he did in 2023 against Weston, Wisby delivered the winning hit, driving in Sasser for the victory.
Wisby, Holt, Stephens and J-Dub Davis each had a hit for the Tigers, with Wisby and Stephens each collecting an RBI.
James threw just over 100 pitches in the win, striking out seven, walking only one. The lone run he surrendered was unearned.
Weston collected four hits as Blundell had a hit and an RBI, while Ty Henderson scored after reaching on an error in the first.
